The chassis number is 1-087322-1 so from all my reading that is a 1947. But I could be wrong, looking at it the handbrake adjusters come through the front of the pan not near the hand brake.

Whats it worth to you?

If it is a 1947, you should not separate the pan and trans....I hope it is not a shortened pan!!

Hopefully the pan can go to someone with an early split window beetle for part of a restoration project.

With a chassis number of 1 - 0 873 221, it's a May 1955 Pan

A 47 pan would have 1 less digit (and a small accelerator roller).

That's a shame, still makes it a very clean looking shell for an oval window bug

Glenn your better off getting a later pan, a 54 beetle pan has different things to a later pan that you carn't get.
Handbrake cables, front gearbox mount is different and you would have to make mounts of change them and change the front of your gearbox to fit it etc.
A lot of work, you would be able to sell it or parts of and get a irs pan which would have a balljoint front end etc as well as the irs standard, even disc brakes.
Much better for a buggy.

Yeah,

But I need to get someone to buy this one that is the problem.

Hope I never snap a hand brake cable.
I am making custom gearbox mounts and changing to type 3 rear end, I can do the mods but I would like to preserve this pan but the thing is someone has to want to buy it.

Crap !!

IRS will work on any pan. On an early you would need to modify shock towers and inner forks to clear box and arms but it works fine.

Unless you are saying IRS won't work cause it is a swing axle ...

Brad,

What mods on shock towers? Just brought my new mig so looking forward to some fabrication.

Inner forks are no worries easy to trim and plate.

I have another K & L front end to go on with adjusters welded in.

I will give it a couple more weeks until I start cutting sorry to the purists but I need the buggy IRS'ed and Subi power buy July for a fraser test trip getting ready for the big 2010 venture

Dont really want the beetle laying around here.

JHP1 you are right on the money there but correct freight would be a killer. I would think they charge the same for a rolling chassis as an entire car.

Ok guys here goes last chance to save a 54 pan

I am going to be in brisbane on the weekend on the 21-22nd march and can take the pan down on a trailer to do a swap. I am looking to swap for a rolling IRS pan pref with a K & L front end but not a real drama. Must be rolling with good brakes all lines (brake fuel etc) No or very little rust. Basically needs to be same as I have now just put the body on and ready for rego.

No gearbox needed.

Let me know if anyone is interested or after the 22nd of march the body comes off for the IRS conversion on the early pan.

Thanks
Glenn
