Caravelle subaru conversion

Anyone done a subi conversion on a Mid eighties caravelle. My engine is stuffed so I think Ill go for a ej22 instead of spending $5000 on a reco 2.1.
Mine is a Auto do you think that will be a problem. And the fact that it already has a radiator with fermo's up front, will this cut it or will I need extra cooling.
I have found a engine for $1300 with loom and ecu. Will be able to weld up the engine mount and exaust. And should'nt be to much trouble shorten the sump.
What either cost will I be looking at.

thanks

I have seen a couple of caravelle conversions, both used factory cooling, so you would think it would be good enough. They also had stanard sump, which is noticably lower, but compared to a EJ in a beetle, have heaps of ground clearance.

Caravelles are the most commonly converted VW in the US with several vendors providing parts and drive-in work.

The radiator should be adequate to cool the Subaru, but many older radiators have deteriorated and will need to be replaced.
