Barry,
I would imagine that in this instance you would have to go through QLD RTA seeing as though thats the origin point of the trip.
Can you post up some more details of how you get on, & how your mate arranged his 3 day pass. I requested info from the NSW RTA about driving an
unregoed car for the purpose of getting it home from where I wanted to buy it from I'm sure they said it couldnt be done unless driving directly to a
repairer or an inspection station.
Please fill us in.
Cheers

both!..........double, triple check! every day i see cars on the side of the highway here, parked where they were pulled up, stripped of their "non
active" number plates.........it doesn't take long before they are vandilised.
if you get it sorted, be sure to stop in if you feel the need or having troubles!

yeah you can get a permit - I will be doing this on Monday with a car outside its 3-months 'active' rego. Needs to be doen in the state of origin of
the car's rego, but I would double check with the NSW rego lads

It would be really interesting to see how much this costs! Interestingly, you still have to get back to where you came from!

have picked up a car from nsw to qld. you need to get the permit from the state you are picking up the vehicle from. easier and cheaper from nsw to
qld than qld to nsw. take a mate to trail you back with a good range of spares on board as you do not know what the previous owner has done to the
vehicle. travel during the day as breaking down at night is no fun at all. good luck (p.s qld transport is not open on weekends in qld)

i once drove a 180sx from melbourne to the sunshine coast, the car has no plates, and was well out of rego and defected in victoria for modifications.
got a temp rego from vic roads no problems, didnt get pulled up once even tho there was no plates. the deal was you could only drive it to you place
of repair and i think you needed to state the address, but if that address is your residence that didnt matter. it didnt have to be a business. also
legally you cant travel at night anyway, the permits are for 7am till 7pm, well the vic roads one was.

From what I know of it, you will need to have a permit from QLD Dept Transport for the QLD part of the journey, and then a NSW permit for cover in
NSW, as state permits do not cross borders. Technically speaking, even a QLD dealer / trade plate (or other state for that matter) is not strictly
able to be used interstate - it is then at the discretion of the interstate police when queried. I was advised to have interstate permits AND trade
plate for cover! My advice - probably not worth the hassle. I'd recommend you seek quotes from a car carrier. (probably not much more than the costs
of permits and fuel anyway, let alone time!)

certainly cheaper and definately alot less hassle to get it shipped
i did a main seal and new zorst in a mates bug last weekend and had the scanner on while i was doing it
i heard a young guy driving what must have been a fully hektik nissan silvia on a permit get pulled over by highway patrol 3 times between tweed heads
and grafton
it didnt have plates and members of the public were ringing up and potting him
Daimos right sadly, it doesnt take long for the local bogans bored outta there brains to start lobbing bricks thro windows of vehicles parked on the
side of the highway

new ride for the missus
Selling her Golf and she wanted a NB TDi
Saved half a truck by buying it from Brisbane
Didnt want to go through the hassle of de registering it here and re registering it in Sydney
They wont/cant register it as a NSW car
So getting it shipped unregistered to a dealer here and they will register it
Should have it in a week or 2

Interesting how the states and territories have different rules. Here in the ACT I needed a permit to get my 1500 ready for rego etc . The permit was
easy to get, cheap, was current for 1 week - I think too because the car was within 12 months of the registration having expired helped - outside that
period one would have need it inspected - bit of a Catch22 - How do you get it inspected if you cant take it on the road? Car trailer I guess. The
only restriction on the permit was that I was NOT allowed to take it outside the ACT. Which I guess is fair enough.

My daughter bought her new beetle in Melbourne from a dealer (it was a dealership car) and instead of transferring the rego, she just got a permit (I
am not sure if it was from NSW or Vic) to drive it back to Port Macquarie. They drove it back with no number plates over 2 days, and only got pulled
over by Police once near Sydney. The copper just looked at the permit, everything was fine, and let them go on their merry way.

A woman from Scone had been living in Cairns for a number of Years, She came back to Scone to live
driving Her Mitsubishi with QLD plates and QLD licence
after about 8 months She was in an accident..
She got A Big fine for Not changing her Licence when She arrived in NSW, and again for driving a vehicle that was registered in QLD... and not having
it changed to NSW rego..
in NSW country areas
When driving a Beetle [anycar] without Rego to get a blue slip in NSW.. Many people drive with the old plates still attached to the car... this way,
no one takes any notice of Your unreg Car..
this may be illegal... but they are then given in to the motor registry when You go to pick up Your new rego plates...
Maybe You are supposed to drive to the Mechanic for a blue slip with no plates.... [as the car is not registered]

Hi
I bought my Prado new on the Gold Coast in 2002, saved about $7,000, the dealer could offer both Qld or NSW rego, so I got NSW rego and flew up on a
cheap flight and then drove it home that day in time to watch the Bill.

Law says you are suppose to change in 3 months
Went through this with my ACT bug
It is a Brisbane dealer and it is too far to get NSW rego
Steve - that is about what i saved including the ship costs
Only reason i wanted the rego bit was to have a cruise down in it
99% i am going to ship it - as long as it is the dealers while on the truck and not mine

driving unreg'd
I bought my permit over the phone from Vicroads to bring my bus back to Tassie, and on a prev trip took out a permit to drive a Falcon from Tassie to
the nationals in Canberra then back to Geelong. Just a one week permit. Also have sent many busses to Vic via the boat with a permit.
They are still there, just have faith you'll find one.
