Rattling Generator

Hi guys,
Just wondering if anybody knows what could be causing my generator to rattle? It seems to make a rattle right near the belt, mainly when i accelerate and just as it changes gear. Any advice would be great.
Thanks guys

Fan belt too loose?

May be the bearing nearest the belt end..

or maybe the fan belt is too loose

or maybe the fanbelt is worn out... ie.. too narrow...

Any of the above or pulley collapsing or the fan flogging on its hub.

hmm... fan belt is nice and tight, and near new. Have a feeling it might be the bearings near the belt. Gonna check it out properly and try to get an expert opinion, Thanks a lot guys :)

Ah sorry mate i didnt check the thread till just now... Went to Southside VW on logan rd. though and he says it not the generator, or the fan, he says it is a bolt in the rear of the fan housing that has vibrated loose and the fan is clipping it as its turning.
U gonna be round mt gravatt east this arvo though? or have i missed u? I'd still love to get a second opinion
Thanks a lot for the offer mate :)

Better late than never, hey?

I have used this technique to determine the source of rogue noises for years & it costs bugger all:

1. Block up one ear with some blue-tak etc

2. take a 300mm (approx) length of garden hose.

3. Start engine.

4. Poke & hold the hose the hose in your unblocked ear with the hand nearest that ear & point the hose with the other hand at suspect areas.

It would have told you it was at the back of the gen in a flash. Don't be told a stethoscope is better, noise can travel along solid objects for quite a distance & they cost heaps.

I've used it to find everything from dodgey tappets to niggling exhaust leaks.
