Polo Mk5 revealed

The latest fifth-generation version of the VW Polo has just been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show this week.

It is slightly bigger in every dimension, except for weight - 7.5% less than the current Polo - and still gets a 5-star NCAP safety rating.

In Germany it will have a choice of four petrol engines and three diesels, spanning 44 kW to 77 kW. Five of these are entirely new or never used on the Polo before. The 77 kW is a 1.2-litre direct injection turbo petrol engine, which drinks only 5.5 L/100km (combined cycle), 19% less than the previous model. The most economical is the 1.6 TDI BlueMotion, which averages just 3.8 L/100 km (96g/km CO2). It is the most fuel efficient and cleanest 5-seat car in the world.

The Polo goes on sale in Germany in June, and Australia will follow either late this year or early next.

Don't worry, the GTI is sure to follow in a few months, and will certainly be available by the time of the Australian launch. The current Polo GTI has 110 kW so it will be interesting to see how the new one compares.

my wife and I are currently looking into getting the current shape polo, but after seeing this one, we may hold out for a while.
Love the new lines and the 'blue motion' model sounds perfect with the wonderful fuel economy.

Incidently has anyone experienced bad customer service from their local VW dealer ? either in the service department or during the
time of purchase ?

Austral in Newstead, here in Brisbane, has been an absolute shocker.

All we want to do is purchase a car, but they don't follow through on our queries. Anyone recommend a dealership close to Brissy ?

Haven't heard yet if the BlueMotion model is coming to Australia. The previous Polo (and Golf, Passat, Touran and Sharan) had a Bluemotion version, but they were not sold here. However the previous Polo Bluemotion was on display at the Sydney Motor Show last October, so who knows, the new one may make it here. If so I hope it is with lots of fanfare, as it is cheaper, faster, more economical and less polluting than the Toyota Prius and people should know it.

You can find VW dealers at http://www.volkswagen.com.au/vwcms/master_public/virtualmaster/en_au/0/find_a...

Bad customer service should not be tolerated. Speak with the manager and tell him straight that you are unhappy and will take your business elsewhere. Tell him you belong to the VW club, and the VW owners forum, and will report of your experiences with his dealership. That ought to get an improvement. If not, phone VW's head office on (02) 9695 6000 and make a complaint about the dealer.

looks good. i had an 07 GTI for about 18 months before work and other comittments forced the sale of it. truely an amzing car. so much fun.

jedidan, i'm not in brissy but i never had a bad experience. a few seemed a bit reluctant to talk to me at first as i was early 20's lookingat a GTI but as soon as they realised i was serious and not window shopping and actually in the VW scene they changed their attitudes. never had a problem with the service centre either. if anything, they wer the easiest peope, to deal with.
