Will inertia reel seatbelts from a notch/fasty be ok in a '61 beetle lengthwise?

Yes, I believe they should be OK Matt.
You have to be careful with inertia seatbelts..
they need to be perfectly balanced..
otherwise You won't get them to pull out...
