Lowering
G'day
What would be required to lower my 1963 bugs front end?
What would be the estimated cost to do this?
I have read about bags, dropped spindles etc but I am not sure what is better and what would be the cheapest and easiest to install. |

depending on the style of beam either king/link pin or ball joint for dropped spindles but the easiet most cost affective way is a pair of AVIS
adjusters probably set u back around 200-300 and gives u around 6 inchs drop!

Options:
Cheap and nasty - load weight into the front of the spare wheel well (eg. bags of cement) - not advisable
Still cheap and a little nasty - remove some of the leaf springs out of the spring stacks - again not advisable, this has been discussed before here I
am sure
Easy but more expensive - dropped spindles (eg CB performance) - lowers 2 1/2 inches and maintains steering geometry and ride quality...no adjustment
though
Harder but a little less expensive - have - avis or sway-a-way adjusters welded into the middle of the beam - you can fine tune ride height to what
you like but unless you can cut accurately and weld yourself you'll need to pay someone to do it for you
Optimally - use dropped spindles with adjusters to keep ride quality but have adjustment to fine tune.
There is heaps of info on this subject on the net and in the mags - this is a brief explanation only.
