Just starting a 54 beetle project please help

Hey VW collectivites,

I'm back on the restoration trail after a 8 year break.

I have recieved from the eastern states my grandfathers 54 beetle. It has had a bare metal re-spray and the original 1100 engine reconditioned. Now the getting it on the road begins. Hope enyone can help with the following part or good places to find the bits (web sites or stores). Not fussed on the NOS side of things just want the bits.

List starts with
- rubbers for all guards and rear tail lights.
- new or near new running boards
- rear tail light lenses (inc the heart ones)
- dress grill for center of oval beetle dash
- rosie headlights
- new or near new crome blade bumpers

Stay tuned for more parts as there is going to be a bunch needed over the next few months as am plannig this to be my daily driver.

Once on the road hope to start attending NoH2o events

Good Luck with the tail lights, a few people on here are looking for them atm.

Are you just looking for the lenses of the tail light, or the whole units?
Wolfsburg West have the lenses. http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/wolfsburg_new/electrical/front_and_rear_blinker.cfm

54 beetles are a great car. I have a few bits and pieces left from some I've had, including the chrome strips for the running boards from a '54 model.

The heart tail-lights are rare and hard to get. it's worth trying to find good used lenses rather than repros, as the colour of the repros is quite different. But you may not have a choice!

Put any questions you have on the forum, the '54s have more in common with the earlier split window cars than later models.

Cheers, Angus

I got the wolfsburg west repro hearts after trying for 5 years to get genuine ones for a realistic price.
they are a nice reproduction.
I have bought other cheap repros in the past and they are crap.

would like to see some pics of your car.

Most people seem normal, till you get to know them.

Thanks for all your posts they have all been helpfull and are setting me on the right direction.

I have to post a few more times before I can email the few that have emailed me sorry for the hold up.

I am going to put a few pics up when I get a few seconds to take some.

On the taillight thing I have finally gone through the bits and pieces and it seems all I need is the internals and the lenses for a Left tail light. I actually have 3 tail light bodies.

Thanks agian
