WTB: Quieter exhaust

I'm looking to change my exhaust as the current one is starting to do my head in with the constant popping. Does anyone in Sydney have something that will bolt on for me? Do i need to change the whole system or just the muffler bit? It is the 3 nut flange type.
Cheers

Tuck away might be a bit quieter..... and you can probabaly get one to fit the system you have, or have one made.

best to go see "westi"........he will be looking for a car with thosse headers to cook up something that is quiet for the masses askling him to do so.........only way to guarantee it being quieter is go to an exhaust shop and ask them to cut your muffler off and replace it with something they have been using that IS quiet

Yeah i thought about going to see Westi, It's on the way home but i ride my bike so havn't gone to see him yet. I'll make the effort and see what he says. The noise isn't the real problem but the poppng, Boris at Vintage said that with that exhaust it won't go away as there are no baffles. Hope it doesn't cost much.

Is there a reason for the popping? Is the whole extractor tight and the flange to the muffler too? Those stainless are quiet enough (ok they're loud when you rev the crapper out of them eh Craigie T??), but there may be a different underlying problem for the popping.

Look for the cheaper fix before going a whole exhaust swapout.

Yes it pops when backing off but also when idling at the lights (not as loud though) and when cruising on flat road. Basically it occurs in most situations except when accelerating. It is getting quite annoying. I don't have the car for a few days so can't check if it's all tight.

Could be back compresion poping it can happen on those muflers. Its because its a extractor system so its more free flowing and when you let of the pedal it will make a sound like a poping sound but its not as loud as a back fire.

those phatboys are a LOOK AT ME muffler not so bad on worked motor like yours but just plain amusing on stock motors

youll find that headers got the small 3 bolt flange so theres a plethora of other mufflers out there

something like a tuck away would be quieter and drag its arse on driveways alot less

Your muffler may have no baffles inside to quiten the noise down, or the exhaust is too Big for the muffler to quiten down the noise...
buy a smaller muffler that bolts onto the 3 bolt flange..
one that is a real muffler with baffles etc...

cheers
