My 1303 - Colonel mustard. SOLD.
a few observations, the momo wheel, what diameter is it?
Lbug speedos are impossible to see with anything smaller than 350mm
breather box is for hooking up abit different to that
usual install is either side goes to the rocker covers, and the front one drains back into the case, u have a mechanical fuel pump so cant drain back
there, what i did was tapped into the side of the alt stand, u need to original breather hose still hooked to the air cleaner
i did a howto somewhere on the bushing-o-doom
think its in tech mods
i also did one on igntion barrel and switch replacement but i never ended up putting it online
add a relay while your at it

how u have it above would work
only thing u dont wanna do is create a sealed system which is what i see alotta ppl do with those bugpack breathers
ie 2 outta ones to the rockers and the middle one to the breather connection on the oil filler, no breather to the atmo or air cleaner
that pressurises the case and forces oil outta all sortsa a places
my steering wheel is a 350mm momo and my speedo is unobstruckted but my seats arent vw and sit abit lower
helps if ur not 6'11 either

Yeah, No I'm not that tall. I'll throw up some photo's once the wheel is in.
With the breather, its not sealed on the unit itself, but I see what you are saying. I think having one hose go to one side air cleaner on the carbie
sorts that also?? They old kadron air cleaner has a place to stick a breather tube on, and that will help too. thanks for the ideas...
What is this about a relay..... :P are you talking for the ignition??

oh yer relay....
between the ignition switch and the solenoid
by the time the power goes from the battery in the back up to the ignition switch in the front, thro the pissy little contacts in the switch then
alway the back to the starter, combine that with the load a solenoid takes to pull in ( not huge but still alot for a circuit like that) u can
understand why vw igntion switches fry after a few years
chuck a relay under the back seat and run some 8 guage from the battery to it then to the solenoid.
easy as

You should have 2. One under the tank and one by the pump. First stops crud from the tank and second stops crap from the line
madness is in the eye of the beholder

theres no reason for 2
1 under the tank is all you need, and a quality metal EFI one not one of those pathetic $2 clear plastic rock catchers
he already knows that one near the pump or engine fullstop is just stupid and not recomended

did the fuel line/filter a few days ago. the front section neds to be done in a few months, but the tank needs to be taken out to do that (get the
tank cleaned out also).
scrapped the kadron idea for now. having the 34pict rejetted/kittted shaft done, ignition switch, new dampner, and fuel pump going on tomorrow/friday.
The shifter bushes are a few weeks away, as is the clutch cable. steering wheel should also be in the next few weeks.
saving the breather/exhaust/clutch for when i do the new engine. Have sanded the engine lid ready for painting, and gettting hoodjax of VWCOOL in a
few months... (start my job next week... money neeeeded!!)

Also, I have decided that the new exhaust will wait for the new engine, as will the kadrons, which I can still get my hands on. The breather box will
also be going on the new engine. It's probably going to be a 1776.

the update is.... that I'm still a poor student... haha. but I have organised some replacement guards... which i just need to save for.. and still
dont have the kadrons or new carbies of any type. Going to keep the body rough now, and get some widers wheels for the rear and new steelies for the
front (they are all pretty beat up sadly...) Won't be driving to warwick most likely. However on the plus side, hopefully once I graduate at the end
of the year and go into a full time job, the new engine will be a go ahead, after a slight lowering and brake upgrade...

you may well have seen a bug like mine at UQ up at cromwell college, infront of the principles residence (a mate lives there) as well as a pink bug
(75L) up there. I'm studying Youth work with a organisation called Scripture Union...currently located at eagle farm, but moving next week to the
valley. What are you studying at QUT?

So, this is now my official "my car" thread. The list has changed slightly as I have learnt a fair bit from the forum thus far!!!
The steering wheel is still not installed, as I have tried, and failed. A mate is going to help me with that one is a few weeks
got new front brakes going to happen in a few weeks (hopefully pick up the parts at action day...) Getting new calipers and Rotors from John Sherman (
http://www.volksconversions.com.au/ ) and other brake parts from
Classicveedub.com.au.
Worked out that kadrons from Rod Penrose are my best option, that will be organised after the brakes are installed.
Clutch and exhaust still haven't gone in (kadrons will go in at the same time, and maybe an 050 disi with pertonix coil and electonic ignition), only
because of my rear end damage which will need to be fixed before all that other stuff comes in. Yeah, more money for parts and labour. Will need to
get new gearbox mounts, fender beading, taillight seals, engine seal etc etc. list goes on.
thanks for listening to my rants

Not likely... haha.
Plans for the weekend not confirmed for myself yet, But will most likely be the "pit crew" for Trevor Luckhurst (1970 beetle, running 1915cc
w/webbers), and potentially Mark Bretherton (1970 beetle running 1776 with twin kadrons). Two tow cars, two car trailers, two race cars..... I'll be
driving the accomadation/tool wagon. hahaha. Possibly a 76 bay camper, or maybe even a 69 beetle (1915cc w/webbers) for town driving.... we shall see.
Are you making the trip Dave? by yourself?

Nice man. I'd love to go for a run down the track.... we shall see. its
a good fun weekend from what i hear. I only came on the sunday last year, and drove my mums commodore up... the aircon was cool, but aircooled is more
fun! I'll try and catch up with heaps of forum members while I'm
there, and try and take a HEAPPPP of photos.

Yeah it is so much crusier if you camp there. Sleeping next to the track, waking up to the sound of someone tuning their Volksie. Great times. I probs
won't run this year because it was fun and everything last year but i saw nothing. I was in the pits behind the 20b kombi when he did that massive
wheelie that is up on youtube and that is pretty much all i saw...... although i probs would have driven 10 hours just to see that

Wow, sounds like you have some great mods in mind. I'm a noob to all of this, but how hard was the engine swap? Was there a lot of mucking around or
did it just bolt straight in?
Are you going to put a VW sticker on top of the ferrari one on the wheel? Probably be good for another 10hp or so!
Also wondering, where did you get the chrome fuel filter? I've got a rubbish one in my 67 at the moment and am looking for better filtration.

Hey dude! I actually have not done an engine swap or anything that crazy yet. I'm told its not too hard with the right tools, but I won't be doing
that in a while.
I'm also told, that the steering wheel that i got my hands on is quite rare, so i don't really want to modify it, and don't see that i will need
to.
The chrome fuel filter was from classicveedub.com.au - but I will be losing it from the system in a few weeks... Not going to run one in the engine
compartment any more, and just going to get an efi filter... they are better quality, and i will just have the one filter under the tank, thats all it
really needs.

Have organised new carbies, not kadrons. picking them up at warwick. its a surprise, and its secret for now.
I graduate my course at the end of november, so things will be slow untill then. but have plans for 2010 for colonel

great work mate.....I have finally moved from Type 3 threads to explore other peoples projects.....beetles and buses
that stinger looks awesome!! should be just the thing for Warwick
as for the photo of your room....it could have been a photo of MY room!!!! Music theory books on the floor, acoustic hard case, a good pile of VW
inspiration under the bedside table, and by the look of it, some food for the soul too all things you will find next to my bed!!.....minus the beetle exhaust and stinger (the wife wouldn't let me have something like that next to the bed!!
Hope your plans work out with the trip to Warwick, all the best mate!

keep looking through the threads, there is heaps of awesome stuff.
the stinger is pretty awesome for $20 (thanks Rohan!) sadly wont be going on colonel till the rear end damage is fixed. But stay tuned to this thread
for future plans, a fair bit will be revealed post warwick (and by that, i mean post 23rd october when all my assessment is handed in), but as soon as
i get a full time job next year, it will start looking, feeling and driving like a super should... (low and quick.. ) - all the decent parts live nder the bed... all the stuff that needs to be
cleaned up lives in the garage....
there are 3 guitars residing in my room, a cort jade 6, Ibanez JFS in blue, its a thin, hollow body jazz guitar. and the best of all.... A JS100 with
dimarzio pickups, shaller tuners, and a whole bunch of other custom stuff... lots of white assessories, and best of all, Joe's signature on the back
of the headstock. i have photos of me and him, from when i met him at the last G3, backstage. yep. amazing.
all the books and food are needed for the youthwork course I'm doing
with Scripture union. its called YMIS (youth ministry internship scheme) - and thats not even half of them. I'v been given more books this year than
the rest of my life. one day i will finish reading them all. maybe
trip to warwick for me is now with mick58. should be an awesome weekend.
many photos will be taken.
Thanks for the support

so the colonel wont be makng it to Warwick?......thats a shame, but there is always next year!! Im sure it will be a great trip with Mick058 (that is one NICE bug!!!)
sounds like you have some major plans that you are keeping close to your chest.....can't wait to hear your ideas after Warwick
you must be quite a guitarist with instruments like that at your disposal....are you in a band or anything??
well done on the youthwork course mate, there are certainly a lot of young people out there that have no direction and no hope, good on you for
wanting to help in that field!
can't wait to see the photos of Warwick....I will have to make the trip up there one day.....South Australia seems to be so far away from things some
times!!
Keep up the good work mate
