FlashTak
Hello all,
I am wondering where you can buy FlashTak on the cheap. If the name sounds weird it's what us pomms call this self adhesive 10 inch wide strip of
lead type flexible roof flashing that you use on wall to roof edge's.
It's only 10 quid a roll in the UK and great for sound deadening vehicle panels but I can't find it over here.
Help me please!!!!!!

Try a mitre 10 store. its only like 2 inch wide in a roll that i have seen. not overly cheap from memory. maybe ring jaycar and find out if they have
anything that would be better....

cheers dude,
I wouldn't mind using brown bread if I can find it. Jaycar used to stock it but not in there catalogue anymore and Dynamat is a rip off. Shame on the
flashing cos it does a wickedly good job for not much cash.

They have Flashtac in rolls up to 300mm wide in my local Mitre Ten and also at Bunnings. The 300mm wide roll was around $100 from memory. I was going
to use Flashtac but after a bit of research I found out that adhesive is not up to par for auto use. I didn't want to risk having to pull it all up
if it started to peel. Dynamat may be expensive but it is far superior.

I paid $250 for 9 sheets of Dynamat. Thats about 3 1/2 square meters. Flashtac is about $100 for the same amount. Not sure I would trust Flashtac
after a few QLD summers though.
I don't know about the weight side of things. I will check the box.

The Dynamat might do a fairly good job but it's still way over-priced.
haven't had a chance to check out this FlashTak stuff but it just kinda bugs me that you can get similar in the UK for $20 a roll and it's very
sticky. Call me a meiser if you will but I dislike paying hard earned cash for something that should be half the price.
Maybe I should start importing brown bread to sell at reasonable prices........Hmmmmm, there's an idea
Here's a pic of how the Flash band in the UK looks on a pan

Comparison of sound deadener performance:
http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com
Of particular interest is the performance of the asphalt based sound deadeners and the reference to them having a higher temp rating than roofing
material.

Think the stuff I'm talking is a bit different. Also, just for talk - I belive it is Illigal to sell lead based products in AUS.... this may have
something to do with it. maybe.

Very interesting. Thanks for that. Blows Dynamat out of the water for best performance/price. There were some interesting unknown manufacturers there.
There's not the call for manufacturers of this stuff in Oz so we have to rely on companies to import these products and as Dynamat has the biggest
name it's why most in car audio installers use it. more investigation is required, me thinks

Yea, i've been looking at current products in Oz and there has been mention of lead run off etc over time so fair enough. The UK stuff was primarily
tar based I beleive with some kinda lead/tin/ali foil on the top of it. This stuff lasted donkeys years on your roof. Did the front porch/garage roof
with my dad some 10 years ago now and it's still stuck perfectly in place where we put it. Would just be interesting to see how it faired in the
Aussie sun?!?
The main point of trying to find this stuff is just to take the tinnyness out of the floor pan and not for stupid, i.e. dynamat, financial outlay
I shall keep on with my investigations. I'm sure you guys wouldn't mind a cheaper alternative if I find one

Try Ormonid if your after a budget floor pan dampener. $30 a can at Bunnings. Works good if you paint both sides of the pan. Its a bitumen based
waterproof paint. Good stuff and cheap.

cheers dude. I shall check it out next time I'm at Bunnings
I've also seen some EPDM sound deadener on Ebay. Trying to get more details at present plus Jaycar do some sound deadener but not sure about that
one.
