Head Temp Sensor Mounting
G'day everyone,
My EFI conversion is going well got my fuel tank etc sorted, just waiting on my intakes to be portmatched then the installation begins.
Need to mount my bosch head temp sensor (thread = m10 x 1.0) to chat with the ECU about temps.
QUESTION: Where is the best place to tap this into the head????? Pictures would be great!!! As i can't find any scematics to see where the best
place with enough 'meat' and also don't want to drill into the exhaust port!!!!
NOTE: i have CB performance 044 heads with no notches adjacent to the tinware screw points.
Would have loved to tap a larger hole in the head tinware screw hole (~M6) but looks like there's not enough 'meat' there due to the diameter of
the sensor (M10).
I sure lots of ppl have done this so any help would be great.
Marty

Marty, the stock D-jet setup in type3s had the head temp sensor mounted in its own boss on the left head just near the #4 plug
its fairly close to the boss near the manifold that takes the tinware screw, with a bit of work you may be able to utilise this
maybe someone has a TLE and could post a pic of the sender??

Thanks Joel,
Would love to see a pic as i can't find any pics!!!
I've got the CB 044 heads and there is only an area for the tinware screw then nothing else, so that's what's got me wondering what to do!!??
Any one else ever mounted a head temp sensor in a type 1 motor???????????????

Nick, i think that would be the best option too but this head temp sensor is the one recommended by Microtech (the ECU i'm using) and i think the
spark plug ones are a VDO gauge setup. Sure would save me from tapping the head.
Joel, if you could get your hands on the manual mate that would be great!!!
Still a mystery as to the best place, surely someone has had to tap a CB Performance 044 head for a FI setup????? (or am i just doing a strange
thing!! hehehe )

Thanks Joel,
That looks interesting, that was the moulding that i was looking for and it appears mine doesn't have that extra temp mounting 'boss'. I've only
got the tinware screw point. Looks like that's in front of cylinder #4's spark plug????

no worries
that hole in the head is the upper outside head stud
very few heads have the boss for it, only TLE type3 and some aftermarket
