Damaged threads
I have just pulled apart the front end of my 68 beetle to rebuild it and the threads on the spindle shafts have been cross threaded by the previous
owner. Also the shock mounts on the lower trailing arms have also been cross threaded. Needless to say I am not impressed.
Is there any way to repair the threads on the spindles shafts? or am I stuck with replacing them
It looks as though the threaded shaft on the lower trailing arms are pressed in and have some kind of locating pin to secure it in place, is is
possible to replace these shafts?

You could try running i die nut over the spindle shafts and see if that cleans them up ok , and then just use the clamping type lock nuts to hold the
bearings at the correct tension .
As for the shock bolts you can aslo try reclaiming the thread there too with a tap and die .
If you dont have tap and die gear , we do at CVD and you can drop the parts of for a quote on repairing them for you .

The shock stud can be replaced but it's a bit of a job.
