Need bit of help with parts in Victoria
Hi Guys
I had a beetle years ago and am about to take the plunge into another...Live in Tasmania but traveling over to Vic to pick up a 1973 Beetle on the
weekend. I have organized an unregistered vehicle permit as per http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Registration/Permits/UnregisteredVehicleP... which will allow me to get back to the Spirit
and home and organized RAC membership to cover that contingency...however the current owner has mentioned that the car needs a tail light and
headlight lens replacing. Where would the best place in Vic be to source these so I can be somewhat road safe for the trip from Tatura back to the
Spirit of Tas? This...I am sure...is the first of MANY questions to be asked on these forums.
Cheers
Joe

Hi Joe
the 1973 tail lamp assembly could be the Large round ones...
or the tombstone type which were fitted from 1968-1972
Your beetle could be a 1303S with the large curved windscreen.. or a NON super with a flat type windscreen..
the 1973 MODEL beetle was made from 1st August 1972 to the 31st JULY 1973 [the VW YEAR]
the headlamp assemblies are the normal VW ones HELLA usually...
held in by the chromed ring with one long screw..
these parts are very easy to find...
new or used... Volkshome 0394640366
Volkwerke 0394351868
maybe other places in Victoria or tassie...
but every VW aftermarket shop should have them...
any headlamp assembly 1968-1972 will screw straight in..
and the chrome ring holds in all together....
the later beetles had Bosch headlamps...
and the chrome ring did NOT hold them in..
the headlamp assy screwed to brackets in the guard headlamp well....
So, are you buying a 1303S super beetle with Mcpherson struts on the front??
or a NON Super beetle with torsion bar front suspension..?
cheers

thanks for the reply (and thanks to those that PM's, I cant reply as I dont have enough posts to pm...or u2u as its called here)
The bug is a standard non 1303 torsion bar. So I assume tombstone is the go? this is the smaller ones that arent referred to as elephant feet?
