Modified vehicle laws

What are the legal requirements for rego in NSW now? I'm looking at chopping a beetle up for a Baja. The pan would be uncut, just the front and back on the vehicle and mebe pull the original split type box out and put a reduction type in from a type 2. Engine would be an unmodified 36HP. Would any engineering be required just for panel work?

No not in NSW. Just need an ordinary blueslip to register it if it is unregistered. The engine will need gaurds/covers on the pulleys and the exhaust.
