can anyone tell me which way this goes.i wasnt taking any notice when i pulled the pedals out....
i put it back in with the 2 raised parts facing up and away from the front. im assuming the 2 raised parts are to stop the clutch and brake pedal
falling to far back ???hhhmmmm

Yep you got it right , now just adjust it so as the clutch and brake pedals are slightly leaning back and paralel with each other and all will be as
it should be .
Don't let body work get in the way of real suspension travel

Chris,
Adjust the pedal stop so there is a clearence of 1mm between
the push rod and the bottom of the piston. This play can also
be measured as free travel at the brake pedal.
The free travel for a Type I is 5-7mm.
Important, the pedal travel must be large enough so that if one
brake circut fails, sufficient retardation can be attained with the
intact brake circut without the brake pedal touching the cross
panel. A template was provided by VW to check this. The
distance for a Type I is 205mm.
