AXLE HOP WITH KAFER BAR

i purchased 3 point kafer bar off craig and still getting bad axle hop if i launch up to 4000rpm but anything over that i get lots of wheel spin.

on the rear i have adjustable spring plates, koni adj reds, camber compensator, and 205-50 kumho ecstas, medium compound.

any suggestions as i was told the kafer bar was all i would need to stop the tramping....

"if i launch up to 4000rpm".... does that mean it does it even at low rev's ??? (say 1500 or so)

If so it could be clutch shudder... feels kinda the same as axle tramp, except will do it without spinning the wheels...

what mounts are you using on the gearbox ?

Tramp is a combination of the forks flexing as well as the gearbox/engine moving on its mounts

The K Bar stops the forks from flexing, but it wont stop the gearbox/engine moving if you haven't upgraded the mounts.

Right, OK - I'd be thinkin along the same lines as Craig then... mounts.

Assuming "no mounts" means the standard rubber mounts... maybe go up to a set of urethane mounts F & R and a strap kit ???

Solid mounts if you're really serious, but that'll be pretty noisy in a street car...

Hi Guys,
Had the same problem over the weekend couldn't stop it from hopping. After taking the tranny strap, tramp bar, shockies and sway bar from my other car it was either the clutch or the cable tube (bowden tube I think it's called) all it took was a couple of washers at the gearbox end making the bow in this tube about 35mm. Fixed it, no bounce at all.

from my experience over the years, solid mounts, good shocks.no tramp ever.
ever ,ever,
i had never even seen a kafer bar until about a year ago.and as far as i can see unless it holds the engine and or box or both, how could it stop your engine and box from moving(tramping).it will stiffen up your arse end, just as good as some hemroid cream, but you will still need to hold your engine and box pretty firmly, strap or solid mounts.
any how that's my buck fifty's worth.

Berg midmount and urethane or solid torsion bar bushes should be fitted for control of hard launch, assuming clutch all good. I'm cheap....only 2c;)

my gearbox rubbers are stock and in good condition and i have just replaced the torsion bar bushes.

i have just received my heavy duty mounts that i go off mark on AVD,but wont be installing them anytime soon.

so what would be the verdict as thats why i purchased the k bar because i thout it stops axle hop, without all the other shit you have to put on aswell.????

Also are they early or late engine mounts? the later ones were big and allowed allot more movement. The earlier slimmer ones don't allow as much. I did the swap and reduced the tramp allot.....

BiX is right about the tranny mounts

what year bug?

the later mounts both front and rear are really shitty design and so's the gearbox cradle

u cant do much bout the front mount but i swap all my late bugs to earlier rear mounts and tranny cradle

the early cradles are much stronger and better built and have better design mounts

from memory its 72 and earlier
