Cal Look Tyres - What are you running?
Looking for the classic 205/70 rear and 145 front combo.
Any recommendations??

Nangkangs for the front - expect to pay about $80 - $90 for 135's / 145's. Most tyre places can get them in for you.

There is the real old school combo with 145 fronts, and 185/70's at the rear I think a bit more exy though because 185/70 in 15inch isn't as
availiable as maybe a few years back but that said havn't been quoted on any i've only looked at the michelin vintage series for these tyres and I
know they cost a bit!

I am a big fan of the 205/70. I resently bought a pair of Nexen, which were $120 each fitted, only thing i dont like is they have a stupid sidewall
pattern. I have had BFG which i thought were very cool, they are about $170 each. Nankang also do 205/70s which look pretty good and are cheap.

xzx's on the front are the only choice, unless you're gonna go full strip and use front runners.
205/70's on the back to give that big balloon look.

Where can I get BFG's from. I was told today that no-one in Aus stocks these. Nice looking car by the way...any more pics?

I was also told that xzx's are impossible to get in Aus too! Do these come in 145?

My tyres of choice as follows:
Rears:
Firestone F560 205/70
BF Goodrich Touring 205/70
Bridgestone Dueler H/T 205/70
I have been told that Firestones and BFG cannot be sourced in Aus and that the Bridgestones are $245 a pop and only suitable for 4x4's???????????
Fronts:
Firestones F560's 145
ZX Michelins 145
Klebers 145
Not found a source for any of these.

Will follow up on the BFG's.
Got some quotes for Michelin XZX 145R15. One place sells them for $387 per tyre and the other $450 per tyre. Are these guys having a laugh?

I'm running 145/15 Nankangs on the front and a 205/70/14 Yokohama C Drive on the rear at the moment. The rears are 14's only because thats what came
with the car. Since I got rid of the 14 x 6's on the front the car drives so much better. It will sit on 80mph on the highway without fighting me for
control like it used to. They are fairly quiet as well. Just got to watch cornering and braking.

hey,
i dont have a close up of the nankangs at the moment, ill see if i can get one up. 1st and hopefully only time i drove in the wet on the m&h's
was going to dino's pizza cruise, they drove pretty well, a little wobbly as they are a drag tire, but for cruising you wouldnt notice a difference.
i dont plan on driving in the wet as i still have no inner guards and it takes too long to get my exhaust, etc polished again.... lol

Polak - you have nailed the look, particularly in the Nationals Pics (where the rear sits a little higer - just personal preference...) Love it!
The M&H look THE BUSINESS!!! Do you mind me asking where you got them and what coin they set you back.

+ 1 on The Nankang's. 145 x15's on the front. $85 from Goodyear. I was a little bit worried about thin 'cheap' tyre at first but I am really happy
with their performance after driving it for a few weeks. Good in the wet, low road noise and not to skittish. Plus the 70 profile got the front of
the super down another good 1 1/2''.
165x 15 80's Nankangs on the rear . They have been on there for a year and have had surprisingly little wear. Probably go 185's on the rear next
time round.

Micket T's 235 60 15 ET Street rears and Mickey T's front runners Radial. Cant remember width but rims are 4" wide. Both street legal.

ah ok. grooved slicks is is definitely an oxymoron. I'll take it as street legal race rubber.
I cant see most of the pics on AVD, frustrating but not something avd admin has been willing/able to fix. (the reason I have 3 different logins)

they consider them slicks as they have very little grooves, and also the design of the tire, they have very soft sidewalls and resemble a slick more
than they do a road tire, but they are dot aproved and "technically" are road legal... i use that term loosly as even when brand new my tread depth
is borderline to pass roadworthy. i guess we take risks to get our cars drving and looking right, ill run till i can :P

also its a good cheat to not have to tow your car to the track or drive there and then have to change to slicks and back again.

For tires, I'll always go for Bridgestone Tires. It's the best. Already proven to me that it can go to any type of roads without easily getting damage. |
