I went on a trip at the begining of this year and had a bit of time on my hands so I did a CG version of what I plan on building with one of the VW I
have.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdUFmrTzOlg

3ds max9, I've got the complete car but I changed it to build a vollksrod.
I'd love to able to use it to show colour schemes and different wheels and any custom ideas that people may have.

I'd love to get a copy of your model. I use Solid Edge but I am sure it could be converted over using one of the native formats. I would be more than
happy to host the files on my website and credit you with supplying it.
At work we had one of our 3D models turned into a real model, using a 3D printer. It was pretty cool. You could do the same with your rod, but it is
pricey.
If you send me the file I can also convert it to a 3D pdf for you, then everyone can view the 3D model in normal Adobe Reader.

I have a good size decal on a file with a black background. I really really really want to change background to white. Anyone know how? Or better
still could do it for me.

I can help as well.
What format do you want the 3d file in, I'll see what I can export or convert it into.
I'd love to use the model to help members out with ideas or colors or even wheel choices, I've always thought it would be usfull to have a 3d image
or movie to help show others what you have in mind for any customization or changes that anyone may have in mind.

try sending the 3DS file, then convert to normal generic files, parasolid (.x_t), acis (.sat), iges (.igs) are some of the normal ones.

kombivw - That is a really tough one as the outlines are the same colour as the background, so removing the background removes a lot of the outlines.
I had to retouch it a lot. You could spend hours trying to get it perfect if you get bored. A free paint program like paint.net will work well. http://www.getpaint.net/index.html
Anyone, I have attached my white background version. I tried to make the blue, red and green constant colours rather than the blotchy pattern from the
scanned image. Before and after versions attached. I have also emailed the full size version of the white one.

thread from the dead.... On a slightly similar note, I've got a low quality jpg with a white background. How hard is it to make it into a gif with a
transparent background?

The problem with that one is the anti-aliasing. If the background you put it on isn't white, then you want to remove almost all of it when you make
the transparency. This makes it look worse than the original. Changing the background colour would give a better result.
I just use the free paint.net program.
