Mythbuster: 1303 model-year '75

Upon request, an excuse to post some pics and specs of my car: a 1303 superbeetle from 12-1974 (model-year '75)

In 2007 with the 2,7ltr (103x80) type 4 engine on a track day:
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w112/fusca03/1303/KeveropZandvoort.jpg

In 2008 on the Nurburgring just before DasDragDay in germany:
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w112/fusca03/1303/IMG_7714-border.jpg
http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w112/fusca03/1303/IMG_7713-border.jpg

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w112/fusca03/1303/DSC_9814_HR.jpg

Suspension is basically from a 944 turbo-Cup (M030) with 330x28mm perforated disks from 997S rear on the front with GT2 rear calipers on the front.
Rear disks are 299x24mm with 993 rear calipers.
Wheels are 7,5 and 9x18 BBS from a boxster (optional) with 205/40 and 245/35 tires.

It now has a 2,2 ltr (103x66) turbo type 4 engine with EFI (ecu: DTA S60), Jenvey 48mm TB's, 660cc Siemens injectors, Bosch 044 Motorsport efi pump, Dry-sump oil system with a 26/38mm pump and front trunk moounted oil tank and battery.
Gearbox is a G50/01 5-speed unit from a '88 3,2 Carrera.

Engine:

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w112/fusca03/kscd_2009-05_043.jpg

Best time to date is a 12.18 with slicks (no end speed recorded). With street tires it was a 12.5 @ 111 mph.

More updates to follow ;)

Hey Steve, yes that the Nurburgring/Nordschleife.

Nuzo, yes, its the original sunroof that was already in the car.

This is my daily driver 412S, now with a 914 2.0 engine that made 93 RWhp on that dyno:

Wally went with the 66 stroke due to the cylinders he had, they are original oettinger nikasyls which suffered a rod failure in a larger N/A 2.7 he was able to salvage the cylinders buy shortening them hence the use of the 66mm stroke.

This is my Volkswagen, there are many like it, but this one is mine. Without me my Volkswagen is useless, without my Volkswagen, I am useless.

I couldn't have explained it any better myself Damon ;-)

Also the 2,7 ltr heads (unwelded 914 2.0 units with 46x40 valves) have been refurbished, even though a piston hit it at 6K rpm.
Still, a lot of new parts/methods have been used and so far it works very well.
The 66 stroke stock 1700 crank has no counterweighs and runs cleanly to 7K rpm. Its a VERY strong crank with big main-rod journal overlap also due to the original 55mm rod journals.
We used extremely light JE custom boxed pistons with a VERY high piston pin location and 19mm pin diameter to accomplish this.
Rods are lightenend original type 4 ones with ARP bolts.
Lightweight tool steel type 1 lifters were used that are DLC coated, as well are the piston pins and rocker shafts.

Here's a pic of the DS tank location:
http://www.keversite.nl/fotoalbum/fotos/47019.jpg
Oil routing is very simple: one oil line (the bottom one has been replaced last year bij a -12 AN braided line) from DS tank to dry-sump oil pump (feed), one line from pump to front mounted oil cooler and back into tank (scavange line), thats it. The inline cut-off has been removed as well as I was afraid I might forget it some day...and drain back is not that much and balances out over a long period of time.

Thanks Mat,

The cam in the 412 is the bone stock 914 2.0 cam. It has stock intake runners with a single Ford (escort) TB and Golf G60 injectors. Stock heat exchangers and exhaust.
Max hp was at 5150 rpm. I think leaving the stock head sealing rings out and thus raising CR and induce better squish made the difference.

Oh yeah, the rices had launch control, supercharger AND NOS, (about 400 hp), super soft slicks at 10 psi on the front. It did him no good

Greets,
Walter
