pics: what transmission is this?
What kind of transmission is this?
My '59 beetle has a 1600 engine, swing-axles, and 4-stud drums... quite a mixture, so I'm not sure what kind of transmission I have.
The transmission case has the following numbers on the right hand side:
38
113.301.103
C
0196464 (I think this one is the stamped production number)
Thanks for any help!

I have no notes on trans codes that start with a zero.
If the 4-sud drums are original then it may be from a 1500 beetle.
...although it would have a letter prefix on the code unless it is very late 1967 version.
Some other things that can help ID the trans are:
the clutch arm style,
the bell housing recess...12V?
the throw out bearing style
the shift rod,,,does it have a seal in the nose cone?
The axle tubes short or long where they attach to the spring plate?
One ot two drain plugs in the main case?
Some or all of these things may have been changed over the years,
and only disassembly will confim the internal details and ratios.
With more details and/or pictures, I may be able to make a better guess.
