This just occured to me this morning on my way to work but what things would the old guys pass on to younger dubbers that have been learnt the hard
way? To start off:-
Don't drive through deep water with the heaters turned on! Or put another way- if you want to find all the spots steam can get into the car then
drive through etc!
Don't try to polish the pulley with the engine running and a loose rag!

Check the fuel tap is turned on before driving, particularly if you get on to a major arterial road within 50 metres of starting.

when you build a type 4 engine, you bolt the heads on, insert the pushrod tubes, with sealant, throw your pushrods down, bolt on the rocker gear...
and then notice your bits of under cylinder tin on the ground. Then have to pull it all off.

Similar story for the bits of tin that go behind the fan housing, but not as messy.

do not rest the jets you're changing on the top of the fanshroud, as they WILL fall down and fall into the tinware cavities!!!

the decklid and/or bonnet is always lower than you think, so watch your head

Yep have done that one with my beetle engine.

After a fresh paint job, always remember to do your wheel nuts up tightly so that the wheel doesnt fall off and rip the guard and running board off
with it. (DOH)
