yea, for the issues of having a lack of safety and good taste they will have to upgrade to sharp 6 inch barbs/spikes welded across the bumper instead.

Now that would be sick! :smirk:

This is why the world is so enjoyable. I personally like them.. stuff the safety issues. My 54 doesn't have seatbelts either.
If we all had the same ideas, tastes and thoughts the world would be very boring!

Safety issues??
They are rounded on the ends and have NO protruding sharp edges unlike my bumper bar.
I think the handle on the bonnet would cause more damage so mine are staying.
Whadaday
Each to their own though.
Got a great big fibre glass kit with front bumper spoiler. rear wing and flared guards to come when I get em ready.
More for people NOT to like. Lucky it's only me driving it.:lol::kiss::lol:

Hi

I don't like them, they looked cool years ago when they were rare, now there are thousands of Chinese ones around they have lost their style.

But each to their own, I do things to bugs that other people find distasteful, but they are my bugs.

We don't want the VW style police to get started on these things, we would all drive the same looking car then.

I personally have an issue with their safety
If the RTA had to make a ruling on them I think they would be outlawed
I would also hate for my insurance company to see them

this is the RTA's opinion on protrusions they really only applies to bull bars and aerials

Protrusions on vehicles
Some vehicles are fitted with badly designed bull bars with pointed corners and sharp edges, and some are fitted with accessories which protrude beyond the bumper bar or bull bar.

Protrusions and some methods of attachment to the front of vehicles present a danger to other road users and increase the likelihood of injury or damage to a person or another vehicle making contact with the vehicle. An accessory or bull bar fitted to a vehicle must therefore be attached in a manner that does not affect the continuing compliance of the vehicle with the Australian Design Rules and Regulations.

This information covers only the roadworthiness requirements for equipment fitted to the front of vehicles. These roadworthiness requirements and the relevant construction safety standards will be reviewed after Standards Australia completes a proposed Australian Standard on bull bars.

Fitting of accessories

Of particular concern are the ways in which items protruding forward of the bumper or bull bar are fitted eg. accessory fittings attached to the exterior of a vehicle such as brackets supporting aerials and lights.

Also of concern are bull bars that have sharp edges and pointed corners or bull bars fitted with accessory attachments such as fishing rod holders, lights and mounting brackets for such fittings, and any fittings that affect the field of view of the driver.

For safety reasons it is illegal to have:

Any attachment or protrusion projecting forward of bull bar or bumper bar which presents a danger to other road users.
Note that any aerials or winches which cannot meet this requirement should be removed after the operational need is completed. Emergency and rescue (State Rescue Board-accredited rescue vehicles, mines rescue) vehicles may have a constant operational need for this equipment and will not be rejected. Minor protrusions forward of the bull bar or bumper bar such as a spotlight, or fairleads required for the operation of a winch, where the mounting brackets do not protrude, are permitted providing the protrusion is the minimum necessary and is blunt or protected to minimise any risk of injury to vulnerable road users.
Any sharp or ragged edge or corner on a bull bar which could cause injury to a person coming into contact with the bull bar.
Any bull bar or other attachment that does not allow the driver a view of the road and of the traffic to the front and side of the vehicle so that the driver can drive the vehicle safely.
The RTA has issued Vehicle Inspector's Bulletin No. 5 to Inspectors and Authorised Examiners explaining the inspection requirements to them. For further information on protrusions to the front of vehicles, please contact RTA Technical Enquiries on 1300 137 302.

theyre already classed as illegal and yes u can booked for them, but not many ppl do, just advised to remove them

there are proper ones for late model headlights that fit properly, look ok and dont cover half the headlight up but noone seems to fit them only the ones designed to fit early bugs which look like shit on late model upright headlights

i think that these were actually designed to improve 6V headlights by reflecting more light down where you need it.

that said they were made illegal in germany back in the day as they were slicing up too many pedestrians, plus i have never liked the look.

it is the diversity that makes the hobby so i won't tell you to your face that they make your car look a bit gay. :)

Brad, yours are atleast the proper ones designed for 12volt headlights not the old 6volt style that cover up half the headlight and make bugs and kombis look totally stoned

people really add insult to injury when they angle them for the angry/sad look

The newer style ones look pretty crap on the earlier beetles to, all pointed upwards. These were an absolute bitch to fit. I swear it took half a day to fit them. If I knew they were going to be so hard I would of told the missus to get stuffed. But hey, I am a softy!

I love my Bel's eyebrows, they add to her personality and were part of the reason I fell in love with her when I first saw her parked by the road with a for sale sign xoxo

Someone would have to be getting up too close and personal to your ride for them to be a safety hazard:(

A face would look just wrong without eyebrows!! I have eyebrows on my 57 bug and my 74 bug and am looking for a pair for my NB.

There are many modifications that I dont particulary like but I don't go saying how much I hate them!

I believe they were introduced to keep the headlights clear of snow and subsequent icing up of the glass when the car's parked. So unless you're expecting snow or they're the real thing on a pre 68 beetle, I'm with you zjm, there's no excuse. :td:
