M Codes

Hi,

I know I am lazy starting a new topic and that it has probably been discussed before.... but I am wondering if people know what the unidentified M Codes mean on the Birth Certificates from VW.

I just got my Birth Certificate for my Ghia and it has the unidentified codes of M008 and M108. I can't see these on the Samba M Code list.

Ideas? Some sites seem to suggest that the M008 is RHD...Is this correct? I noticed that on some forums about Westaflia's there is talk that the M108 stands for "camping equipment" which prolly wouldn't make sense for the Ghia.

Any ideas or can you send me to a source to sort it out??

Thanks Mel

Hmmm... Well mine says Type 144 - definately RHD. It was built 15 Jan 1960 and left the factory on 22 Jan 1960. Are there any helpful books that I should purchase to find this type of things out or other sources that I could try?

it seems that over the years the M codes for some vehicles were lost ??
or
there are Now not enough people to look the codes up in old books etc....

VW owners in the USA are having the same problems...

I have a few M codes for 1200/1300 Beetles in a Book but I believe the lists were very long... and most books with a list say there are many more....
