Is this a clutch problem?
I have been having a few dramas with my 65 Type 3 in the past week starting last Sunday.
The car hadnt been driven for a week when I went to go for a drive. It was running a bit rough and when I went to take off in 1st there was nearly no
power what so ever... when I took the clutch out all i got was this weird jerking from the car and when I put my foot down further nothing happened
(got up to about 5 or 10 kmh, cant remember if the revs got higher as I was in a bit of a rush to go somewhere). So just put it away and took my
parents car.
Looked at it yesterday and got the engine running well - synced carbs adjusted timing etc so i think there might have been some oil on the plugs but
it must have burnt off.
Backed it out of the drive way, (seemed fine in reverse) and then went to pull out in 1st but the same thing happened again only this time when i
tried more accelerator I got about 20 metres down the road and it stalled... tried to start it again but when i pushed the push but i heard a thud and
then everything died and i had nothing. No idiot lights, head lights or anything nothing hapeened when i turned the key on or off. So i had to push it
back the 20 metres I had come and called it quits for the day.
havent had a look at it yet but i have no idea why there is no power in 1st (havent tried starting in 2nd yet coz the car is not going obviously). The
engine seems to be running smoothly so coukd it be trans or clutch etc??
sorry for the long read
cheers

turned out to be a loose battery connection so that bit was easy.
now to the real problem... according to John Muir it looks like i have a distorted flywheel or a broken spring on the pressure plate...
can anyone give me anymore info?
have also noticed some oil leaking from trans
cheers

are you talking about a leak in between the engine and gearbox. if so sounds like a main bearing seal leaking on to your clutch. i could be wrong
though

yeah i had the main seal replaced about6 months ago but i think it must have gone again... but there is also oil leaking from the actual transmission
because it seems thicker and stickier than engine oil.
is it possible thats what is causing the jerking? i took it out for a quicky down the road and it seemed a lot better, there was actually power there
but seems to need higher revs when starting from a stand still...

its hard to tell exactly where from but there seems to be a puddle near where the engine and trans join... i know thats where the main seal is but
there is two puddles of different fluid

I am guessing you have a gearbox problem
Sorry - but think the motor needs to come out and see how floppy the shaft is

gee ok i never thought about that. last time i had the motor out it was when i put the carbs on. the shaft seemed fairly tight but there is a good
chaance i could have damaged it putting it back in...
if this is the problem, do i have to find a new box or send it to someone like Dangerous to be repaired?

your call
Good 2nd hand one would be cheaper.
Definitely get a 2nd and 3rd opinions but leaking oil from the transmission is NOT a good sign

Possible
If the box is dead then for $300 i would be putting a new clutch in anyway
If the box is ok then its the clutch
Either way you are up for a clutch
You said you are leaking a different coloured oil
I cant see anyway it can just leak

Good plan , it may be some thing as simple as a spring out of the clutch plate,or a dodgy spigot bearing, but let Mike have a look and then you will
know intead of pulling things apart higgledy piggledy.
