How does it Amaze Others?
What does your VW do that just blows the minds of non-VW owners?
Here's my example.
Yesterday morning I pulled the engine out of my Baja to do a few things and rewire some stuff (it's only a 15 minute job so why not?) I had a friend
come around later that didn't believe it took so little time to pull an engine out. So I jacked the engine up, slotted her in, plugged her in and
fired her up in less then ten minutes. Then turned around and said lets see your silly Commodore do that.
A good example of I why I love my Volkswagens so damn much, they boggle the minds of normal humans!!

I had my engine out while swapping transaxles, and noticed a crack in the top of the muffler that was easy to re-weld with the engine out. During the
day when I had a minute, I grabbed one of my carpenters to come & give me a lift onto a trailer with the motor so I could take it and get it
welded. He was very surprised when 2 of us easily lifted it, without a crane or something, onto the trailer.

My wife had someone go off at her when she was parked in a 'Parents with Prams' spot at the shopping centre. Demanded to know where she had a pram.
My wife had backed in, so opened the bonnet and showed her the stroller. The other person then demanded to know where the baby was then. My wife shut
the bonnet, pointed to the baby in the back, and the next minute was definitely censored conversation.
The other woman obviously thought you must have a new plastic 4WD to be allowed to park there, as that is what she was driving.

The day I was filling up my Type 3 and a young dude told me to move f------ forward so he could fit in behind me. I told him I needed to be there to
reach the front tank. When I came out he made a apology and said he had no idea. I just smile and agreed no idea.

pulled into to garage that was full due to price change day and there was a big truck blocking 2 pumps so I pulled up behind him and filled up front
while all the plasticfalcadores waited there turn

Sorry to go off topic, but i hate 4WD soooo much.
A good example is when i turn up in our Beetle at Maddy's kinder and every other vehicle there is a 4WD.
Quite what they were expecting to encounter on the short drive there is beyond me.
Then you have the dreaded 2 minute wait whilst you watch them painfully try and get out of their parking space.
Sorry to anyone on here who owns one of these, but overall i think they're pretty pointless really...

Forget that, around my neck of the woods, Pop parks the massive squillion dollar caravan somewhere, then, Nanna takes the 4wd down the shops!!!
Once I actually witnessed one making the sign of the cross before she turned the ignition key!....... to back out of a small shopping complex parking
spot.
Joel, I already said we could do an entirely new post, that would go on for years.

I recently bought a 1500 because I was going through dakdak withdrawals. It's a bit of a bomb, but here in WA, if it's registered then 'they'
don't care.
It's a daggy brown. I painted the battered mudguards matt black and the wheels white, so in a way it's unique.
It sort of looks like a Noddy Car, except the colours are all wrong.
I'm amazed at the number of little kids who are gob smacked by it. I mean very little kids, some of whom are barely knee high to their mothers. They
drag on her arm, pointing to my car, gesticulating, talking nine to the dozen and smiling hugely.
It gets very positive responses from people of all ages, even the irritating dickheads who hang around in my shopping center begging, tell me what a
cool car it is.
The kids around the corner are now calling me Herbie again as I drive past. I used to have a Herbie.
The responses from everyone so far are positive.
It's just one of those things. All over the world, old aircooled VWs are cool to nearly everyone.

years ago my mums 1500 needed a new clutch so on the way to work I dropped off my tools and went to work so I could do it on the way home
when I got back she'd all ready got the motor out and had the clutch off not a bad effort for an old girl

Don't get me started on 4WDs. I was offroading in my Baja and came to a hill that had a sign that said "No access, 4WDs only". So I flipped it the
bird and powered on. I must say that I was very surprised that my tired little 1600 SP managed to pull my car to the top with the massive wheels it's
running.
I always get odd looks and people laughing and pointy at me from their big 4WDs. But I know I get the last laugh cause I can go anywhere they can for
one 20th of the price, and a million times the fun.

I remember going to Lake Keepit one June long weekend in my 59 bug, and after having the windscreen ice up on the inside (from condensation from our
breatheing) as we were going over the top of the Great Dividing Range (Oxley Hwy - near Walcha), we pulled onto a service station at Bendemeer for
fuel (back when the attendant came out and filled the car for you). After filling the car, he asked if we needed anyhing else,, and we suggested some
antifreeze for the radiator. He went and got it, and was almost back to the car (thinking where to put it I think) when he suddenly realised thet we
were pulling his leg. He didn't seem to see the funny side as much as we did though.

With my dub-in-disguise, every conversation can be an adventure.
My favourite "discussion" so far was with the young lass in blue who pulled my Type3 based kit car over in the middle of Brissy at 1am on a Tuesday
on my way home from work, and then proceeded to check every detail of myself and my car for nearly 45mins because my rego sticker says 1971 Volkswagen
Type3. She kept trying to get me to admit I'd taken the sticker off another car. I kept telling her "It's a kit car", but she had no idea what I
was talking about and refused to admit it.
In the end I just laughed, sat down on the footpath and asked her to let me know when I could go home. She didn't, just got back in her car and
drove away.
A POSSE AD ESSE.
I live in my own little world, but it's okay, they know me here.

well had a work mate find it amazing that my car had a factory "sissy handle".............and that i hadn't equipped it with more so he didn't
claw the passenger seat base to bits........

here's one, when i first bought my bug, totally stock with 165 tires, it could go basically anywhere my mate's patrol could.... all the boys were
spinning out and couldnt believe the angles the lil bug could climb up

In 1962 I was driving the Beetle back from Bathurst - after a race meeting - ,when a pair of headlights appeared in the mirror. It was near Lithgow,
at a place known as the "Forty Bends", a great stretch of road - so I did the right thing and let the Beetle have its head. Some time later, when we
stopped for food, a Jaguar XK140 (about the quickest car around then) pulled up behind the Beetle, and the driver jumped out. He was shaking, and
said "I've been trying to catch you for miles - what the Hell have you got in that thing, a Porsche engine?". "No," I said," just a VW", and
opened the engine lid. Apart from a pair of big SU carbies, it looked stock.He walked away shaking his head and mumbling, hopped into the Jag, and
drove off into the night, leaving me with a big smile on my face!

Im always amazing 4wd owners by going places where the 4wds are struggling to go.
The two bajas with the exhausts crackling climbing the dunes and getting to the top always gets a crowd taking pictures and videos

The guys at hardware supplies wonder what I am going to do when I am carrying 2.7m lengths of timber back to my ute only to find it fits inside the
back very neatly. Great workhorse the old SC.

Yes, the single cabs have remarkable material capacity and even more than 2.7 m as you can have the back tray off in two minutes.
Even with the double cabs, people with modern utes or double cabs are amazed to find I've got 2 metres of tray and 1 tonne capacity.
