34 years of engine grime

finally got round to looking at our "new" $550 lic interim runabout/longer term donor.

34 years of engine plaque removed and found a 1500 singleport.

oil filter full of black plasticine type gum, oil like molasses, plugs, leads, points dissy cap all look like turn of the century stuff.

cleaned it up, replaced a few bits & fired it up. instant smooth purr/roar (exhausts & embankments dont mix).

excellent.

helterskelter400, what did you use to get the 34 years of engine plaque removed?

external grime:

kero, elbow grease, air degreasing gun, elbow grease & elbow grease.

internal:

2 "oil" changes with deisel. running motor for a short while to pump it around. then 3 changes with cheap oil then the put the gool oil in it.

clean oil screen each time.

i've used deisel many many times on the dirtbike when i've drowned it trying to teach it to swim and the ride home has milk & creamed the oil.

seems to have worked in the bug too.

Its clearly an ancient motor so i didnt rekon i had much to loose.

Thanks helterskelter400.
I think I've got some of that 'elbow grease', so I won't have to get any of that. I'll only have to get some Kero.
Thanks again!
Mark
