71 1302s Hot Rod, Do they exist?
Hey Guys,
Well after weeks of searching and months of contemplating and a year of ownership, I haven't had any luck...what am I looking for you may ask?
Superbeetle hot rods! I've got a 1302S beetle sitting at home, and I've been itching to get stuck into it, and I've fallen heavily for the hotrod
look in the above pic!
This blue rod beetle has become my motivation and inspiration (with a fair few mods on my part of course), but I'm more interested in knowing how the
front suspension on a superbeetle would look once exposed, and the front apron? How do I go about making it sit flush like the one in the pic? Or is
it a matter of cut, and weld in a shaped panel on both sides?
Anyone seen pics of a hot rod superbeetle?
PS: Here's some pics of my super...ignore the dog
Kind Regards
Zako

From the windscreen back you are fine, it`s just the McPherson Struts and related mounts on the inner guards that`s the problem.....
Anything is possible.
I would cut the front bodywork off say up to and including the strut mounts. Then cut off the frame head and that front suspension assembly then weld
on a new extended frame head maybe add a drop tube front in therewhile you are at it.
Then you can add a 60`s bonnet and build smooth inner guards to suit!
A hell of a lot of work................................
For it to look any good that is!
Graham.

It looks like a nice non-rusty Super... that someone else could make into a quality German Looker after you sold it to them, then you could go buy a
better 'start' car

I've thought about the german look as well. After explaining to the Minister of Finance (missus) last night that I'll be potentially chopping and
changing, she said 'no, maybe one day you get get an older model'...lol. The german look involved using the paint code from my old bmw e28, and
leaving the chrome on it...might resurrect that idea after learning what's involved to rod a 1302.
VWCOOL, you're right about the rust, there's none at all, not even on the floor pan, or under the battery, firewall etc... The only light rust is
the surface rust on the roof, which will come off easy.
Thanks for the heads up!
Kind Regards
Zako

VW "Messed" with the Bug and made the Super! :>
Only jokin!
German Look sounds like the go.
One of my best mates back in the UK has an awesome `79 Karmann Cabrio with Porsche Big Red Brakes all round and a big type 4 motor (hooked up to his
laptop!)
Best of luck whichever "Look" you go for.

Regardless of what you do, don't modify the chassis or the Individually Constructed Vehicle (ICV) and Australian Design Rules (ADRs) ogres can raise
their ugly heads.
I strongly recommend that before you change anything to do with the pan, check with an engineer first.
