[FS - ACT] 71 Microbus Deluxe SOLD
We've decided to part company with our kombi - I'm sad. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just that as a family with young kids we probably need
something a bit more modern for this stage of our lives.... like a T4!
So here's the spiel:
1971 Microbus Deluxe
37192 miles on the clock
1600TP running sweet thanks to my local VW mechanic (serviced just last week)
Original 8 seater interior - 38 years old but quite tidy
Paint is a couple of years old, in original colour
I've added a stereo with dvd/cd/usb and 6" speakers in kick panels
It has an electric washer bottle but I have an original for it
I could talk all night about it - best you ask me specific questions!
Located in Canberra, ACT
Registered until August 2009
Price: $14000
NEW Price - $12000 (see updated post further down this page)
I have stacks of photos and even some video footage, but seriously you should come and see it and take it for a spin if you are interested. These old
things ALWAYS look better in the photos that in real life. But what I can't possibly convey in words is the feeling I have when I drive it... and
that's daily.
For some background I bought it a year ago from Melbourne, and despite it having a RWC (drove it back to Canberra no worries) it needed rust repairs
under the front apron for rego here, and a really good tune up etc. The front is now solid and you can even stand on the bumper! There is a little bit
of colour starting to show in the bottom of the doors (see pics/video) and two of the three vent window frames are a bit rusty. Aside from that it's
very clean - but I must stress I am neither a mechanic nor a panel beater so please come and inspect it.
If you want some close-up pictures, or have any specific questions then ask away.
I'll post some pics below, but there are a stack on my flickr site http://www.flickr.com/photos/14127754@N08/sets/72157607219010152/, and the videos are http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN9-Nwe65n0.
I can be contacted via PM, or email me at scottjellis1@yahoo.com.au
You can call my mobile 0418 676 616 but please not after 8pm cos the kids are in bed and I put it on silent.
Cheers, Scott

Thanks Andy - yeah I know some would argue it is perfect. But as a daily commuter it's not as economical as our 'normal' (=boring) car, and as it
doesn't have air conditioning or a cruising speed of 110kph it gets left at home on holidays. And let's face it - these things were made to go on
holiday in....

A quick update - I took the kombi off for a NSW roadworthy inspection (Queanbeyan) last week after a request from a potential buyer and they failed it
on two points. Firstly some surface rust on the front behind the bumper. And secondly for oil leaks.
1. The inspector pointed out to me the rust he was referring to (pictured below) which is where the paint had been burnt off when I had all the
structural metal plate welded when I first got the kombi. He said to me it just needs rubbing back and painting. I have to say I thought this was
particulalry pedantic, but then again these guys have to ensure vehicles meet standards so fair enough. Pictures show areas identified - one on each
front corner.
2. The second point was oil leaks - and he even said give it a good clean and bring it back in. Standard response for a kombi engine I expect!
Given these will require attention for rego in NSW (and elsewhere) I'm prepared to drop the price considerably. So... I'm now asking $12000.
It is currently ACT registered until August this year, but if someone needs me to hold it I can easily put 3 or 6 months extra on it. (see there are
some good things about living in Canberra)
Contact details in initial post - which I've just ammended to reflect new price. Feel free to make me a sensible offer, that's how buying and
selling cars works afterall.

Kombi has been sold. It's making it's way back to Victoria tomorrow with it's new owner at the healm.
If you live in Lorne, or if you surf, keep an eye out for it one of the local pubs!

Being a 71 lowlight deluxe owner already - I really appreciate how good your kombi is/ was.
Hope it has gone to a new loving home.
These busses are too good to lose.
Cheers,
Scott
