IGNITION LEADS
Hello again, who knows where to get the cheapest set of leads for a 1985 1.9 caravelle? or what did you pay for yours? and are they
the same as the 2 litre air cooled leads?

No they are not the same. The air-cooled 2-litre leads all have rubber seals, and long bakelite ends for nos 2 and 4 cylinders (to reach to the top of
the tinware). Watercooled leads don't have either of these; they have metal ends, all the same length, like a Golf's wires.
Why be cheap? Just contact your nearest VW workshop and buy a set. They cost around $36 USA so maybe $50 here.

well the local workshop told me 69 for a air cooled set and 120 for a watercooled set, so where do you get them for 50.
do you order them in from usa I thought it still worked out about 60 - 70 dollars with postage. I'll have to do some more googling

Yes, I probably underestimated the amount of local markup !
Try the big local VW shops - Classic, or Vintage, or Micks etc and see what they charge first. You could also try your local genuine VW dealer - they
should stock these - but I think they will be more expensive.
Otherwise yes you could order them in from the USA. That link above (drivewire) is pretty cheap at $US36, but they might be US-made - who knows. The
other place in the USA I like to order from is the Bus Depot. However they are charging $48.87 (genuine German Bosch). http://www.busdepot.com/details.jsp?partnumber=09272 They
have lots of other cool Kombi parts though.

Cheapest is not always best,I see a lot of T3"s with blue 8mm leads and to be honest that is nearly always the problem,spend a couple of dollars
extra and get the leads that are designed to work on the vehicle with the correct resistance,connectors etc.

yeah I brought mine and it had make up blue leads, I already took the disy out and fixed the fuel injection sensor, the disy cap and rotor and plugs I
can get here but at 120 for a set of leads; I would feel like I was being bent over the counter and shafted, so they can go jump too much simple. what
resistance are they supposed to be anyway?

$120 seems a lot. Have you tried some other VW shops? Check the VWMA magazine advertisers and ring around. Where are you located?
Otherwise for that sort sort markup, yes it would be cheaper to order genuine VW leads from the USA, even with exchange rate and postage. See the
links above.
I have no idea what the specs of genuine VW ignition leads are, but they are the correct ones for your vehicle.

brought a set off fleebay from the uk, bit of risk but should be ok.
Now the H-pie is another story seems I need to start looking harder.
