Getting a '73 back on the road
OK,
Have been right through my '73 fasty, pretty much all the running gear is new or reco'ed and entire underneath and usualy rust areas have been
cleaned and rust protected.
What do people do to protect the rear pillars? What's the best way to remove the expanded foam stuff in there, and is it best to seal off the vent
holes?
Similar with the front fresh air inlet. Is there any access into the inlet to stop it rusting inside?
This car is pretty much rust free, so I'd like to keep it that way!
Is there any service work you can do to the steering box? I assume they are grease filled, so can new grease be put in? Anyone ever pulled on
apart?

The foam in the rear pillars can be aborted with a coat hanger.

"aborted " "coathanger " too funny 
with the under dash vents make sure the big rubber ring is in good condition you could even seal it up with windscreen sealant.

I thought the foam might be disolved with a solvent of some sort?
Klaus, I assume that is on top of that fan box? Is that easily removed to check?

Thanks again for the help. The dash has since been pulled apart to check it all out. Even removed the windscreen to check under the seals. All looked
good, and properly rust proofed.
It's so nice to have a type 3 without rust!!! (well very little anyway 
The rear pillars are still a worry, bot what foam I could out, and drain lines from the vents are not blocked and don;t leak into the pillar. Got fish
oil and tectol up inside as far as I could.
Probably still worth trying to seal up the vents in the pillar at some stage. Might not be original, but less likely to rust!
