15x 7" Fuchs on the rear of '54 oval

Hi All,

I am wanting to put a set of 15x 6" Fuchs on the front of a standard '54 Oval Beetle, and 15x 7" on the back.

I am keen to avoid a narrowed beam on the front, and think the 6" will sneak in. I have a set of adaptor plates to accept the fuchs, but that too will increase the width of track. Has anyone tried the same, did it work, and if not, what did you have to do?

Equally, I am wanting to put a set of 7" on the back. It does have a 1500 gearbox, which I believe may widen the track. Has anyone put 7" on the back of an oval, if so was there anything dramatic that had to be done?

Thanks all.

Cheers

Craig

Hi

Adaptors are illegal in NSW for good reasons, not sure where you are.

Why not get some Vintage Vee Dub front discs in Porsche pattern and some rear drums with Porsche pattern as well.

I ran 6 & 7 inch Cookies on a 73 1300 bug and they fitted fine, fitting the discs and rear drums and you should end up about the same.

Adaptors are also illegal in Victoria.

Vehicle Standards Information Bulletin 8 (Modification Guide) also states "The stud pattern of the replacement wheel must be the same as the original." which, on the surface of it, would also appear to rule out Porsche wheels.

The car currently runs drums all around, and I am wanting to avoid the expense of doing a disc conversion.

The stud pattern will remain 5 stud, so technically that is the same stud pattern (just different PCD!)... well it is in my book!

So, will they fit with adaptor plates, or will the drum need to be re-drilled due to the added width of adaptor plates?(with the threads protruding rather than holes drilled into the drum)

Cheers
