Here I am!

There are plenty of DVDs around with old footage of the Wolfsburg plant in Germany. A good one is a 35mm film called 'Three Miles West', made in the mid-50s, that is available on DVD here: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DVD-VOLKSWAGEN-1958-1975-Classic-car-video-collection_...

Otherwise do an Ebay search on 'VW DVD' or 'VW video' and other ones sometimes pop up.

Australian films are a bit harder to find. The famous one is called 'The Shape of Quality'. There are segments on YouTube - do a search on Shape of Quality and it should come up.

Yes Club Veedub has a video copy of it, that Steve C made from an original 35mm print many years ago. We are currently in the process of converting all of the club's VW videos (more than 60 of them) to DVD, so they are not currently available for borrowing. However as they are converted we will play some of them at our meetings, on the big screen.

Or another dedicated mobie night might be a good idea. Anyone got any suggestions for a venue? We have tried scourt halls but they are a bit cold and uncomfortable. A proper theatre or theaterette woul be better.

Three Miles West is interesting - the name comes from the fact that the Wolfsburg factory was only three miles west of the old East German (Soviet sector) border.

The film was narrated by Kurt Kazenar, who if you are as old as me, will remember for playing the sneaky Dr Fitzhugh on the TV show Land of the Giants.

It's on that DVD on the link above (Ebay). The DVD has quite a few other short VW films on it too (all European/US, no Aussie ones).

Another interesting Australian VW film is Taxi To Rumdoodle - a little happy newsreel on the Antarctica 1 VW. I don't know if it's on YouTube. We have that one in the Club library too, currently being converted to DVD.
