1954 Oval bug, 2276 & turbo
Following on from my thread in the new members area, here are a few more pictures & details of my bug.
I've owned the bug a couple of years now. When I bought iti it was painted (badly) black) - here's a picture (the paint looks better on this than it
was):
I originally ran it with the same 2276 block I have in there now, just with a higher CR of 10.5:1, milder heads and weber 48IDF's.
I then bare metalled the roof due to some micro blistering that was getting out of hand, and at the same time dropped the engine. When I installed the
Rayjay/Weber DCOE turbo setup I dropped the CR to 8:1 and had a set of end castings tigged so I could port them to suit my wedge port heads. The
cam's still a bit wild on the duration front for a turbo really, being the webcam 86C I was running when it was n/a. I may yet try lower CR to up the
boost, and I have an FK46 on 114 LC's sitting on the shelf, but we''ll see how it runs for a bit. Here a re a couple of mid build up shots:
Now I've got the urge to tinker again I've changed the tuirbo for a Garret T04 and the carb is off at the moment to be replaced with a holley
650cfm.
Couple of misc. pictures:

Thanks for the interest...
I'm yet to see how well the turbo performs on the strip as on my very first run since fitting it up I blew the (brand new) MSD 6BTM box. I've now
reverted to my old Mallory Hyfire and will when time and funds permit install a boost retard onto it. In the meantime, rather than locking out the
dissy (which gives me a headache trying to start it hot) I have modified the good old 009 to limit advance to prevent detonation. If anyone would like
info on how to do this please let me know.

Thanks! The towcar there is my dad's citroen van. It struggled to do 50 witjh my bug on it! Its a complete shed, but it got us to the UK Cal Look
Drag Day OK...
The normal tow vehicle is my old T25 that my brother now runs. Its on 17" wide 5 stud rader style wheels and is a pretty cool van.
I would drive it to the shows but always take my family along and a solid mount gearbox, no interior panels plus 2 kids and a wife does not make for a
happy journey
This picture also reminds me of how high the lights were installed before I pulled it apart - that was one of the first things I changed.
Cheers
Jamie

Jamie,
Cool looking car in that colour with the military style insignia on it. What does the SAS on the door represent?
Cheers

It refers to my vw club, the S treet A nd S trip Rennwagens. Have a look at our club blog:
http://sas-renn-wagens.blogspot.com/
We're fairly active on the drag strip here in the uk, and took a large part in organising a drag day here in the UK, and there are a further two this
year over the next month or two.

The military insignia is a bit of fun while I get the car ready for paint - the paint scheme is based on a staff car (a VW 82 Kommandeurwagen)
belonging to the Afrika Korps of the German Army . Eventually the car will be painted properly but right now I'm just concentrating on having fun
with it. Another hold up for the finished paint job is that I keep changing my mind what the colour should be!

Just noticed your username Brendan, if you're wondering if I'm a fellow member of the special services (or indeed anything to do with the armed
forces save for my wifes parents being ex-army) I'm going to disappoint you!
