Clutch cable/pedal hook fix?
What do most people do for a warn hook on the end of the clutch pedal that the cable hooks on? Just weld it up?
I had the pedal assembly out to clean it all up and noticed some wear on the hook that's inside the tunnel. Figure it's best to repair it now rather
than wait for it to break through.
It's on a '73 fast back.
Also is there any easy way to replace a cable, or do you always need to remove the entire pedal assembly to do it?
Is there any recommended mod to the tunnel to make the job easy?
Thanks for the help.

Best you fix the hook now it's out but for replacing the cable there is a cover plate on the front of the tunnel held on by 2 screws. Accessible
from under the car, remove the plate and you can get your hand inside to feed the cable through and hook to pedal.

Ah!! So there is! Strange the manual does not mention that!!
Thanks for the help.
It also has an after market gear lever (has a pull up hook to get reverse).
Is it worth changing this back to an original gear lever?

One manual I have shows the cable being fed into the tunnel from the left footwell. Too hard on the fingers!
On the gear lever, I'm not the best one to ask that!! I like most of the things near to what came out of the factory. The standard one works
fine.

Thanks again. If you enlarge the hole on the LHS of the tunnel it will give you easy access that way. I will poder that one while I fix the pedal
hook.

I have welded hooks in the past... make sure you grind/debur the weld so it doesn't actually make the wear quicker
Good second-hand is better
Moly grease will help stop the wear
'crocodile nose' pliers may help with installation

That plate on the left side is the support bearing for the accelerator shaft. Why cut a bigger hole in the tunnel which causes other problems when
the designed access hole is already there (at front) for maintenance on the clutch cable as well as the gear shift rod.

I have welded the elongated worn hole on our clutch pedal lever arm, then re drilled. A new retaining pin and a bit of moly grease, and I ended up
with about 5mm of wear gone, and the situation back in my control.

Thanks again for the tips. Should all get done over the week end.
OK, sounds like I will just access by the hole in the front. By the way the plate on my '73 looks a bit bigger than in your picture DH.

Not sure what year it was enlarged. Makes it easier to get your fist in there.

Thanks again for your help.
Hook all welded up and pedal assembly all cleaned painted and re-greased ready to re-instal. Hopefully good for the next 30 years.
