HELP PLEASE
G'Day all, it has been a long time since ive been in the VW area. Have just purchased a 71 beetle but dont know exactly what i have if anyone can
help it would be great.
OK the Vin number is 1113036981 and engine number is AD469684, Plate says it is a 12/71 build.
on the outside it is a Yellow beetle with a Center Rag top(Aftermarket). I live on the northside of Brisbane and the bug needs some work (the dreaded
Rust) and interior etc.
If any one can help out there i would appreciate it.
Thanks Whip Wilson

Hiya one,
Just what exactly would you like to know?
Your VIN is compatible with the build date. So, you most definitely do (or should) have a 71 standard Bug
The "AD" series engine is also compatible with a 71 having been produced from 1971 through 1973. Your engine serial number would indicate that this
particular engine is from the 1972 production run and not original to this car. In its original configuration the "AD" was a 60 hp SAE/50 hp DIN
dual port 1600.

Mike its most likely a superbeetle
our standards in aus only had AB 1300 engines and they didnt sell in big numbers
the supers had the 1600 AD engines and sold alot more
Whip, you didnt pick it up off ebay recently by chance?

G'Day everyone - Yes i picked it up off ebay just this week and want to have a little fun with it.
I wasnt sure if it was a standard bug or a super. I want to get the rust cut out, Im not sure to keep it original or do some customizing i am open
for suggestions. I cant send PM's yet until i post more. As for the interior it needs a new roof lining the seats re done and carpet the door
panels seem to be in good nick but would like to get rid of the vinal maybe.
Thanks for your info.
Are there any meetings in the brisbane area?
