I am also from Adelaide and relatively new to VW's. I have yet to actually buy anything for my Notch, but wouldn't mind some advice on where to go
for parts too.
Help us out all you South Oz VW nuts, surely there is someone you would recommend for reliable, reasonable, good quality parts?
Cheers!

That might be Imparts on Main North Rd Enfield, unless it's changed its name in the last couple of months or there's 2 places there.
I've found them to be pretty good - if they don't have what I need they can get it next day, even for an old Golf! Dean Hoskins is the manager there
and races a green beetle with Adam DeBiasi sometimes.
I've had the golf serviced at GHR a few times and they know their stuff and are reasonably priced. Siggy, one of the guys there has been tinkering
with VWs for 40 years (or so he told me). That kind of experience would be hard to beat.

yeah imparts/europarts on main north road is great, happy to help.
The volksfactory i find to be over priced, but he is a good guy and he really knows his shit, and has a bunch load of hard to get second hand
parts.
V & T motors have the old official volkswagen motor machining shop, and they did an awesome job re - machining my case and crank.
Have heard good words about debasi,
GHR motors however are a tad dodge in my opinion, they used sellies all seal as the sealer in my gearbox, now i gotta spend days removing it and
installing the correct seal.

Hmmm, that is dodge and disappointing. You'd think they'd know better than that. Did you take it up with them and ask them to do something about it?

I found v and T to be very helpful and knowledgable.
They were also very happy to explain things to a newbie!

Before the nature of this thread changes into a slanging match about what work shop has dont what to who's car ..... lets pause for a second and get
back to the fist post asking for information.
Its fair to say no matter which shop you go to in any city around the world their is always going to be a mix of people who can say good things &
bad things about the the work performed on their cars.
Its human nature to have good days & bad, and everybody has them ...
It is also fair to say that when ever a shop fixes one thing it is the nature of cars that the next thing in line will fail... shuch is the way of old
cars .... also if you are un happy with the quality of work performed on you car it is up to YOU the customer to make it clear the the work shop of
what you are unhappy about, and offer them a chance to set things right ... but lets not also confuse a quick repair with a complete rebuild and the
scale of things that can happen between the different type of jobs.
Now as i have been in Adelaide 2 and a bit years now i have made it my job to try these different work shops to see which one i feel comfortable with.
so i know who i will & will not use in the future.
Anybody who is looking to engage the services of another person to work on their car, needs to go and see the work shop first, talk to the people
their look at the cars & the work being done and then make your own mind up from there.
Good luck guys, you have the info on where the shops are, make your own mind up from that and just enjoy your rides and the VW seen and dont listen to
the nay sayers, becasue their is always somebody who is unhappy about something ..
cheers

Well said Finn....a very balanced comment....it is definitely up to the individual to make their own choices in who repairs their cars, but it is nice
to hear when someone is genuinely happy with the service received.
Even the most experienced have bad days and will make mistakes, as you said Finn, we are all only human.
Thanks for your comments.

i do agree with the above coments well said you get the good and bad every where my main concern is someone ie a supplier being dodgey as in over
charging or trying to dupe me being a female dose not help and im not trying to be stero typical and i will give an example my dad asked me to ring a
mechanic and find out how much a part was and how much to get it installed/reaplace anyway they quoted me about 120 dollars dad said that seemed a bit
un fair and he rang the same place he was quoted for the same part and service nearly 40 dollars less and because of this i decided before i started
get part and working on my baby which has been in pieces for the last 8 months makes me sad thinking about it that i needed alot of help like little
thing people have told me about the fuel lines needing splitters and the catch to get the seats of the runners abd things that i should look for and
its fantastic because all these little pieces of infomation help out greatly land it means there is lesss of a chance that a supplier will take me for
a ride if i know some what of im talking about etc or convince me that i need something thart i dont need in saying that i am actullly was wondering
if there was any adealide veedubbers near enough to the northern suberbs willing to take a look at my baby and lend some time to help with advice or
recomondations with parts etc if thats not to much to ask it would be greatly appreciated

That;s rough that some mechanics take you for a ride just cos you're female. Knowing about your car would help, as would asking intelligent questions
of the mechanic. This site is a valuable resource - just read posts, old ones, new ones. I learnt heaps about my bug doing that before I was even a
member!
And a gentle, friendly suggestion oxomeloxo - try to use puncuation in your posts and break up the sentences - it makes it much easier to read!
Cheers

in my opinion a public forum is about sharing information - good and bad...and asking for people's experiences is part of researching a workshop
.. with any luck someone else has had a good experience that they will share
