Need help to identify this seat
Hi there,
I just pulled this out of my 1970 type 3 fastback, the recline system is not working and I don't think they are original seats, they are on the
standard rails though.
Can anyone tell me exactly what they are, they just feel a bit wrong in the type 3.

Thanks All

The seat is out of a 1972 model Type 3. 1972 was the first year OZ type 3s had high back seats. You could say that it was a 0ne year only as the
final year of production, 1973, had the 3 point mounting system the same as the Bugs. Your car would have had low back (and more uncomfortable AND
less safe!!) seats from new.
WHO BELTED THE CRAPP OUT OF THE RIGHT FRONT OF THE BASE!!!

Thanks although I'm not sure if I want to keep them they feel a bit clumsy in it, maybe better if they worked properly and were reupholstered..

Someone had trouble puting them in by the look of it! Quite a dent there. What condition are the plastic strips in?

Well,
they only recline three clicks from memory (mine is at the mechanics at the momenbt and I am a long way away from it) so they may not feel as though
they are reclining. Its not the same range as the others, you just have upright, really upright and slightly laid back.

These seats have 8 increments of adjustment on backrest,

I might be one notch out! I thought I counted 8 individual points but the old books from around 1963 say 7 on backrest and 7 on seat slide giving 49
total settings. If you have less then something has gone wrong with the cam on the adjuster shaft.

Nah
I would guess that mine are broken as I am sure I really only have about three spots. Mind you that is the drivers side only as I have not tried the
passenger one.

yep Type 3 seats when you were removing them did you push the seat pin down on the inner rail so it would slide out
there very comfortable if you re trim them and add a little padding
the large know on the side adjusts tha back rest on a cam mechanism which may be stuffed
after market seats in a type 3 will need some magor work in making brackets to get them to fit right
