Tranny/drive train breakages at Warwick?

How many people broke there tranny/drive train at Warwick and what are you going to do to try and stop it happening again?

I think it could be 20% of the field, that would be 17 cars.

I'll start with a few.

1 Mat Berry Hillbilly Racer broken axle?
2 Tony Wasted Time flat black manx diff?
3 Wally broke axle but fixed it. The only reason I know Crazy Coltrickle lent Mad Ashley my 36 to fix it.

Thats 5 cars on the trailer so far with tranny problems and 1 fixed to win the day.

Mat less torque would make your tranny last longer. A single 34pict should do it:lol:

Yep i broke Bec's auto in the type 3, 3rd gear was nolonger after i had a go. Would have only happend to me.

Was not actually 3rd, it was drive / reverse clutch pac.

The main cause i think was to much heat as i noticed the dipstik tube blown out an inch and oil all around the opening.
The other is that the cat converter is right under the stall converter (more heat)
Then me giving it a flogging holding the gears longer.
And of course the 306hp from the rotary.

We pulled the box out on saturday arvo and i changed 2 forward clutches with 2 d/r clutches
Jamed it back in befor dinner and checked it in the morning (all good) so we could drive it home
Which ment i could go hard in the kombi.

I will add the auto cooler which i didn't have time to fit for warwick, and 2 extra D/R clutches and bump up the presure. (a hire stall would be nice)

Dear gentleman...I certainly hurt my pride by not being able to master the liberty shift second gear & having to go from 1st to 3rd on 6 of the 8 passes. So count a gearbox job for me too !!!! How enjoyable was Warwick..
raced the fatman, did a .367 light, broke out also & won the race as greedy pie Rod needed my side too!!! Good to be amongst all again removing the rust from a 16 year holiday..Thanks Ross.

Thanks Aaron and all who made the effort this year to get your cars prepared and entered at this years event . It was great to see so many VWs competing and also to see so many familiar faces .
It was great to see Hounddog running down the strip once again , a huge credit to Ross Freestone . Last time I saw this car run was at Canberra in 1988 at Australias very first all VW drag race meeting and I have video footage of the entire event .
A huge thankyou goes to my crew who gave me so much help in preparing our cars for this event . Ben Ford in the supercharged 63 beetle , Chris Bolton in the 2.2 turbo formula vee , Cyndi Hurst in the 1776 blue L-bug , Dean Penrose in the WPVW sports sedan , Cayne Ford and most of all my father Allan Penrose for his assistance in race preparation and workshop help .
This year I found it very difficult to prepare 5 cars in just 6 weeks , including a full vehicle build for Ben Ford with the methanol supercharged 2.2 engine , a 2.2 methanol turbo engine and transmission for Chris Bolton , a 1776 engine and vehicle resto for Cyndi Hurst , full fuel system overhaul for the WPVW sports sedan , and a resto on the T4 transporter that I used to tow my cabriolet with . Not enough time to get my turbo oval prepared thou .
Just 14 weeks prior to the event I sustained a serious hand injury to my right hand which required micro-surgery to reattach 2 main tendons that had been severed . I had my right arm in a cast/splint for 8 weeks and physio weekly to get my hand to work again . 6 weeks prior to the event the splint was removed and the specialist told me that I could start on light duties ......yeh right !!
My crew all got in and helped heaps with many late nights and regularly leaving the workshop at 2 or 3am to get a few hours sleep and back at the shop for the customers at 8am .
Many thanks to Craig Hughes for organising such a great event and many thanks to the wonderful people of Warwick Drag Racing Club who run the event each year . I have never met a more helpful and friendly bunch of people anywhere .
here is a link to a Warwick burnout video that I found on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GoZ7KeByu8
