Newbie with no idea where to start!
Hi guys. Over the last few months ive been doing a bit to reseach on the bug so i could be prepared for it when it arrives. all this research has just
made me more confused!
these little cars are awesome and u can do soo much too them..
My question is where to start? i slowly want to fix up the whole thing but i'd just like to know how to get the ball rolling?
Should i be more worried about getting the car resprayed and any rust sorted, or should i focus on the engine and suspension/ brakes first? any advice
would be greatly appreciated.
from what i can see it seems to run fine and there isn't much rust .. just a little bit on the surface in places and a little spot in the corner of
the door (small bubbles under the paint)
i've never owned /driven one before now .. any all the poeple i know just tell me that the "beetle is a great car, i used to have one... it just
goes and goes" lol thats not alot of help ( i knew that already)
this is one of the few pics i have of the car .. its not mine until early next week... i can't wait (its a '69 1500 with the original motor in
it)

probably check car over and see what needs to be done .them work out what is urgent and not urgent .also will depend on how much you want to spend
.and what things you have in mind you want to do to it

I am starting with the driveline, suspension and brakes on my Baja first up, then body work from there to the interior. This might help.

When i got mine the first thing i did was get it looking right from the outside and handling which kind of went together. Lowered it and chucked some
mags on. Once they are lowered a bit and set up right with some wider wheels and decent tires they handle like a go cart. It is having a modern car
sit right up you on a straight bit of road then hitting a corner flat and watching them fall waaaaay back. I got a bit side tracked there but yeah, i
would start with the handling/exterior

kill the rust. make sure you have brakes and seatbelts, go from there.

The first thing that you must do immediately is to replace all of the rubber fuel lines. Regardless of what they appear to be like, replace them all
with the correct metric sized high quality hose.
There is one under the fuel tank, another from the the chassis above the rear torsion bar tube to the fuel pump and then from the fuel pump to the
carburettor.
One of the more distressing ways to lose a Beetle or Kombi is to have an engine fire because the fuel line fails or falls off and petrol is sprayed
onto a hot engine.
Please do not fail to do this now and then every couple of years from now on.
As to the other things, I think that getting the mechanicals good is more important that the cosmetics.
That said, welcome to the sometimes crazy world of the air cooled VW.

hahaha ... maybe that was the wrong question to ask.... everyone has good points
The fuel lines sounds like a good place to start as soon as i get it
i'm going to take it to a mechanic .. probably custom veedub in brisbane (anyone know if they are any good?) and see what needs to be done. I'm not
concerned about the money factor .. my plan is to do the car up slowly so i can use it day-to-day (i'm going for the custom look rather than
resto)
i was thinking brakeing and suspension first, then engine /gear box / drive line then lastly paint and interior ? i thought whats the point to making
it look nice and then while i'm working on the engine the paint gets wrecked? ... i want show and go lol
