Superflow 1 1960 beetle

Hi
Just thought I would post some more pics of the VW as it is now back on the road. After sitting for ten years there were lots of items to replace (perished) but now she is ready for cruzing/racing. Also thinking of joining a VW club in Adelaide can anyone give advice on some of them and their events.

Thanks
Superflow 1

Thanks for the comments.

Engine specs are
Bugpack 78mm crank
Buckpak 5.5" rods
94mm Wiseco pistons with valve notches
Mahle barrels
Fk 89 cam with scat pro comp gears
Scat chrome molly pushrods
Superflow 1 heads 44x38 heavily ported and polished, 3 angle vale job with tapered guides
Scat 1.4 rockers
Scat lifters
48 Italian IDAs
Kennedy clutch with 4 puck disc

Tranny is late swing axle with bugpack super diff, albins gears and sway away axles

You have a keen eye dangerous. The autocraft engine is from a midget. This engine I will tinker with and most probably try going turbocharged. I would like to look into opening up piston size on this engine to Chev 101.6mm with steel barrels and insert liners has any 1 here performed this mod.

Also tires on front are 125 x15 Michelin to suit Fiat bambino

Hi Hellbugged
The body and paint was done over 10 years ago as well as buying most of the major parts to the engine. The car has sat in my shed for this long under a cover. When I started building the car 10 years ago I only bought the front rims Cragar bob glidden pro stars. Recently I went to purchase the back ones to find out they stopped making them years ago bugger. I have only recently assembled the engine but still needs alot of tuning as it fouls the plugs quickly. Hope to put it on a dyno very shortly. I have attached some more photos of the car as well as some parts to the autocraft dangerous.

Thanks Superflow1

Hi Superflow,
thanks for sharing those pictures.

Some Autocraft cases are already set up for 98 or 100 bore and can simply have the cylinders bored to 4.00" if you want that size.
Infact, my own are currently 4.03" (102.36mm).

If yours are the smaller varietly, set up for 94 to 96.5mm, then you can have the holes welded and studs relocated.
Ross Free stone did this with his Scat case.

Barrel-wise, yes there are a few options.
Ross made his from chromoly and he runs the rings directly on the steel material,(no probs with an ultra smooth bore finish),
but I have simply made mine from cast iron bar a couple of times, or liners from Hino diesel engine, machined inside and out to suit.
I have also seen Deutz cylinders used before,
but I see no problem doing as you describe, steel with a cast iron liner.
TRY Toyota diesel (3B or 13B truck?) as a supply for the iron sleeves, that can be pressed into a custom cylinder,
then final honed to size.(they are 102mm).

superflow - that is awesome!! Great to see another hardcore beetle coming from SA. Look forward to seeing some action shots going forward...

In regards to SA clubs, both clubs have great people and enthusiasm for different things. While I may be a little bias (beacuse I thoroughly enjoyed my time as an active Volks Enthusiast club member) I would say that if you are into performance, cruising, racing etc. the enthusiast club would be well suited. Plus your car would fit in EXTREMELY well next to the likes of the below vehicles. The grey beetle is the club president's (Jon Kruger) car - enough said!

Very nice Superflow1. Now your here you'll have to share MORE. Have you given it a run yet?

SA always seems to hide a few nice cars and there's lots of a/c vw's. :tu:

Hi
Thanks for the kind words on the car, much appreciated. I havn't looked too much yet into the autocraft engine yet as I was concentrating on building the one in the car. But at engine assembly I tried a mahle 94 against the autocraft and shes well smaller on the seat dia I still have the 94s out the engine but pistons and barrels are well worn. Longer days are here so I will have time to start researching and measuring options.
In the day time job that I do we can use either cast iron liner or chrome liner but always use opposing ring material. chrome on chrome dont last too long.

Colour of the car is a 70s Ford blaze yellow, the more coats of yellow the better the finish. I would like to go to Portland next year to shake the car down and have a bit of fun but first the engine needs to have more load put on it and tuning.

Are there are only 2 vw clubs in Adelaide?. Back when I started building the car there was at least 4 or so. I might go to one of the meetings/outings for the Volks Enthusiast club, sounds like the sought of cars I'm into.

Few more photos not good one's.

Thanks Superflow 1
