Yeah that was probably me :P
I think that flares would be hard to make look good, purely because of the flare around the wheel-arch. They work great on Beetles and early buses,
and even type 3's, but I've never seen them done well on a kombi. I guess there's always a first time for everything though...

well said col
I'm with you col on early buses the arches dont have a lip so spats look good (if there your thing) but if you have a lip I recon you would never
get the right lines in other words you would look like a freek
recycle, restore, enjoy

i was thinkin of cutting all the way upto the top of the wheel well and getting rid of all the arches so i could have it slammed and be able to change
the wheel easy!

There seems to be a bit of confusion as to what spats are. spats are a sheet of metal that covers in the rear wheel arch, If anything would make it
harder to change a wheel.

If it will be controversial then I think I may have to give the idea of spats a miss.
NOT!
I am going to get them now! :bounce

Here's some flares that were an attempt to overcome the flared wheelarch problem:
(Sorry about the image quality, I scanned them out of "Volkswagen Greats, Feb 1978"

Wheel flare looks so good it actually looks "factory." Street critics have admired the wheel flares but they themselves considered the flare
as a factory piece-until we let the cat out of the bag!
