Replace the distributor with a 12V one. Your points are burning due to the condenser being overwhelmed (or it is now underrated for) by 12V input
voltage at the coil.
if your coil is still the 6V one...you could theoretically put a step-down resistor in the circuit to feed it 6V and then your current condenser
wouldn't suffer.
You could also measure/find the microfarad rating of the condenser and upgrade it with one from a 12V system that is compatible..

Hi Sean,
I don't think there is any difference ?? between the Capacitors/condensers on 6 volt or 12 volt distributors..
Condensers/capacitors are usually rated at much higher voltages than they are used at...
BUT Condensers don't last forever..
they used to be replaced along with the rotor and dizzy cap every 12,000 miles... so Yours is well past its use by date.. lol
I have had many problems over the years with condensors..
if faulty, they can wreck the points in a very short time...
a NEW condenser Will fix Your problem..
I would replace the rotor and dizzy cap too..
[I replace mine every 12 months]
buy a points file too... lol
I really don't know why there were so many different condensers available years ago.. maybe the wires or connections were different..
In an L300 mistubishi I had years ago.. I used to have a spare condenser mounted on the dizzy all the time.. as they only lasted months...
cheers
