flash bugs

Never heard of a flash kit etc until we moved out here, which got me thinking.....was the flash thing just an Aus thing?
Can't remember seeing any in the UK.

Yes,
There was a market flash kits which were used on Holdens, Fords and Beetles..
I can remember seeing a flash kit on a 1956 Ford Customline in the late 60s... Ford Zephyrs ...

cheers

Oz only on beetles. They were normally fitted by the dealers rather than VW I think. Earliest I've seen an original is on a '56 oval, my '67 beetle has one from the dealer as well. In my cars case it was probably to move on the old model, it was first registered in late May '68 so it would have been in amongst all the new 1500 models on the showroom floor. I can't recall seeing one on a '68 on car.

They were most common on late '50's - early '60's beetles though. Now good repros are available they'll get spread around a bit more over the model years I imagine.

I had a 1959 model back in the late 60s and it had a red flash on an off white beetle.. never thought anything about it back then.
lol

Once the 1968 beetles arrived with their narrow aluminium trim..
the wide stainless steel flash kit didn't match it..

I remember 1957 58 holdens with the flash kit..
but the FB holden special in 1960 I think, came from the factory with the flash... ??
I remember the 1963 holden special with the flash.. which I think came from the factory??
