They are using anything from brand new XR8 Falcons and SS Commodores to XR5 Festivas (er.. is the XR5 a Festiva... I forget!) and even a GTi Golf here
on the Gold Coast. They have even been known to use late model confiscated hoons cars for a few weeks - until they become known.
Just easier not to speed or do stupid stuff IMHO.

yes this nice officer positioned himself after a long downhill where its natural to accelerate a bit to get up the next long hill...somewhere south of
macksville...i think even cruise control would have trouble maintaining exact 100k/hr over those hills...definitely not a cannonball highway

Yea the cops are certainly cunning when hiding their speed cameras. But the locations after a few times become soooo predictable. Particularly
RBT's... I spose thats part of being a local ... If in doubt there are honey combs of back streets around it.
So it doesn't work all that well... Cause the majority of the people driving in one area would be local, and for the bad arses, they would know their
way around it. neah its just strategy. For my area in Beenleigh, i wouldn't expect more than 10% to be tourists lol. Its not the hottest destination
on the map :P
Anyways, for speed cameras, aren't they meant to display signs and be a certain distance away from particular obstactles like corners etc etc? i am
positive their are regulations but does anyone have a link or know the specific legislation?
Regardless anyways, they do catch out the ones who are pissed or driving radically in some instances and i guess that makes the road safer. I give
them a pat on the back for that. I have seen a few psyko driving work collegues loose their licences and after seeing what they do, even some that
are still driving (eek!). I feel somewhat safer with a couple off at hte least lol.
Its just unfortunate as you have mentioned Rob, that an innocent honest Harry oldtimer could be coasting down and go 5 k's over and loose $300 for
it... Although its revenue cutting, but a documented 'warning' would be more moral for a small exceed over the limit. Such a system works, its been proven on trains. 1 warning per yr,
happens again, heres the ticket. You'd been warned!

Yes,
they aren't supposed to be at the bottom of a hill or near double lines etc... but no signs in NSW for moveable radars
but the fixed speed cameras are bringing in Millions if dollars...
they are triggered by metal strips in the road..
North of Here in a very small town where there have been bad accidents, speed cameras were installed... but late at night the truck drivers used to
drive on the opposite side of the road... so no speeding fines.. and they don't have to slow down.. lol
there is now a concrete barrier in the centre of the road... lol
going in back streets doesn't stop you getting breath tested around here Chris...
and they usually sit inside the main street in Scone or the other two local towns and stop nearly everyone, sometimes they do actually stop every
car.... on a major highway...
try turning off and they will chase after you.... lol
the Highway patrol sit in Muswellbrook in a location You cannot see, and they pull up random cars into a side street and go over them.... check
everything.. $$$$$
5 x Red & blue marked SS Highway patrol cars and a green unmarked SS and about 8+ police officers....
and they are out to get their daily quota of $$$$ ...
to pay for their $120,000 cars.... lol
then they go to Maccas to relax... lol
there is a RBT blitz on at present... why ? who knows...

Sounds like ur police force is more switched on than my local one. Mind you, its Beenleigh, so they got a lot to keep them busy :P
Was a blitz yesterday! Catching people from their drinks after Melbourne cup :P. My bro and I caught a bus home, passed quiet a few of the blue and
red's on the way.

Yeah here they set up at the bottom of a hil for rbt, the only way round is to turn off hundreds of metres before and you cant even see if they are
there. Or you can turn into the golf club car park but they often have a car in there waiting for people. Then couple hundred metres up the road they
set up in front of the bakery with a camera, often behind a truck so you cant see em till they got you already

word of advice, next time you get caught doing something wrong, if you think your hard done by, think of how many times you have gotten away with
worse, that said my fine in NSW BEFORE they changed the low range $$$ & points really shat me off, so have the later implications of it,
Chris in qld the speed cam in use sign has to be visable for 50m prior to the van, BUT you need to stop, get out, measure from the van back 50m, take
a photo, at the exact time you got caught, good luck having a tape & decent camera on you at the time, oh & the time to do so, why were you
speeding in the first place if you had plenty of time?
RBT's - backstreets yes, but why are you taking them if your innocent? guilty
NSW - i feel sorry for you, my experiences with your highway patrol wasnt fun
QLD - however ive had great experiences with them
im not an asshole to them, but nsw was a total C***
oh in SEQ the unmarkeds can be anything, impounded AND DEFECTIVE imports, brand new luxury anything, or the typical new falcodores
at the end of the day, you take the risk you should be prepared to pay the fine, im no angel, ive been caught, ironically the system doesnt work in my
opinion
also, they have a shit of a job, they are useful when YOU need them for help & coppers will still have my respect for that, despite fining me
insane $$$ for a small amount of speeding & the demerit points that made my license go bye bye-almost
again, cop it sweet, how many times have you gotten away with worse...
excuse my response, hope its made sense, its been a hot 11hr day & ive has a few TED's

haha sounds like you had a VERY long day
guilty.. yea. My bro's learning to drive, i get my Opens in a week (after P's for 3 yrs), hes to tight for $, parents too lazy, work and lifestyle
showing him his licence is a necessity, so the poor fellas stuck in a ruckus. so i take him out for a spin about four times a week, dropping him to
work and stuff. But because the RBT's obviously check the licensing, they will pick up that i haven't followed the rules with Jon (my bro) requiring
a supervisor with an opens for like 1 yr. We just refrain from taking the often outposts where they are, while still slapping the L plates and taking
'as much precautions as possible.'
Been doing so for a yr and have been lucky thus far. Hes ready to save up for a couple pro lessons to polish the edges and take the exam. I got a
crystal clean driving record, and i'm no professional (is anyone??), but hes gone from 0 (completely useless) to hero in a manual and its all been
me, incident free. Hes aware of the consequences, particularly with insurance etc. Insurance won't obviously cover damages during illegal activity,
but how many accidents are performed by people driving legally? (honest question). All it takes is for someone to break a give way rule by not
observing properly, and caput.
At least it beats doing 30k's over or being blind drunk. We take the consideration to think "hey... we don't wanna smash"

Yeah I'm pretty sure they work. There are heaps of tests that they have done on YouTube and there is a English car show called 5th gear (not as good
as top gear) but they did tests on it and it works perfectly.
