vw's in berlin wall docco.
did anyone watch the documentary on the berlin wall the other night? Fantastic show for VW watchers. Early 60's type 3's. Oval sunroofs. Split
window type 1. Plus a host of regular ovals and split kombis everywhere.
One guy removed the fuel tank from his beetle and attempted to smuggle his girlfriend across the border. She must have been extremely flexible!

Hi Chris
I recorded it, haven't seen it yet, I thought there might have been some vintage VW footage.

Yes, I watched it and enjoyed it all. They actually have the beetle in the museum at the wall itself. The bonnet is open and you can see how they
altered the fuel tank so the woman could fit in underneath it. I think it was another woman though as they have photos of her in there after they got
to the other side. If ever you go to Berlin, the museum is a must see and this doco shows a lot of the stories of the wall escapes. It is on again
next week as well for part 2 and there are bound to be lots more VW's shown.

DDR GDR East Germany
Sorry I missed that one....
maybe it will surface again....
I have seen some good docos on the wall and east germany
the DDR GDR etc...
on another note: People from East Germany are still finding it hard to cope with the new system....
on another note:
I used to play with a young boy named Dieter Bushwell when i was about 10 or so...[long time ago]
anyway He and His mother went to visit relatives in East Berlin
-they were there when the border was closed....
and the wall etc was built .....
they never ever came back.....
His father later remarried...

from Memory : from documentry where East German Stasi
secret police were interviewed...
they said they were told it was national security and did their job
about every 5th person in the DDR was working for the Stasi
so it was VERY difficult to do anything.. unusual..
Like escape... or buy fabric to make a balloon??
