Yeah I know. That was me in my car!
It suttered, boosted, shook the tyres & broke the shift relay lever on the gearbox!
Spewing alittle too, cause I was hoping to test the turbo setup I just put on it too! On the street it has no problem staying in front of current XR6T
falcons too, which makes it even worse!
Maybe I should just stick to real cars that are RWD & V8's!
Funny thing is, in the all the years I played with V8's & burnouts comps, I never ever had one problem with breaking anything!!!!!
I could always drive to the event incl. driving 1.5hours one way! Compete & have the thing pegged at 6900 for 90 secs, change the tyres & then
drive another 1.5h hours home!
This makes it even worse! I broke a the tip off a pushrod at one event & still managed to drive home running on 7 cyls. without any drama!
Where as I drive a VW to an event, break it less than 20m from the start line & have to trailer it home! Mmmmmm
I've now learn't that FWD VW's are nothing more than basic transport!. Nothing more & nothing less!
I still ask the question "why do I keep %@#ing around with these cars?"

cheers matey.
I don't know about the engine is at the wrong end though.
I had a beetle once & it pulled the head studs withing the first week of owning it!
Maybe its a mixture of me & VW's don't mix.
Jeez! I even work on them for a living which makes it worse!

I was looking forward to seeing it run as well, worth another shot for sure.
What time did you get there, I heard they were turning away "race cars" by late afternoon.

Thats true. Another friend tried to get a race in & he said towards the end of the night, he rolled in with approx a pack of 20 cars they hand
picked 5 cars only to race.
Yeah I got there at 5.30pm. Was waiting in the line up to get in the gate for about 30mins.
Waited in line for approx 1.5hours just to sign the paperwork!
Then waited approx 2 hours for scruitineering.
Then had to wait in pitlane due to an oil down.
I didn't actually get into the burnout box till 9.50PM.
There were alot is pissed people, as they were all guaranteed at least 3 runs by the 11pm closing time!
Even if my car didn't break, I would have only managed one run!
The bloke I rolled through the gates behind with a comp. car only got one run too!
Not bad. $95 for me, my car, a friend & a tow car.
Bob Jane is making a killing. I reckon he should invest in some proper management. I can't remember it being that bad at national event's.
There was only one event I've ever been to at Calder Park where it all ran to the letter & was properly organized. That was Gazzanats, which
isn't organized by Calder!
I think it will be the last time I race there.
I'll be heading to Heathcote from now on I reckon.
For the time it took to get there & wait around, I could've gone to Heathcote, broken my car & still got home before I even got out on the
track at Calder. I also probably would've had extra time to fix the car when I got home too!
But I will be racing again sometime soon.
A friend & I are starting to work on a full trick manualized auto & high stall which I'm hoping to test early next year. Hasn't been done in
Oz yet as far as I know.
Its been done in the states in a mk1 & that car has run as fast as 9.8 on stock driveshafts & C.V.'s!
The same mk1 ran a 10.8 in full street trim(semi slicks)! Drive to the track, race & drive home.
So it can be done.
Mine won't be making anywhere near that power or be that fast, but I'm hoping it will make it more consistent & reliable.
Just have to sit it out with a manual & slipping clutch & broken components for alittle while longer.
I've also got another engine I will be going to town on. 1.8L 20v. The same setup I'm building has made 500+hp on PULP. This is a while off though,
but its in the pipeline
Should also add that this car is still my daily driver which travels 200mk round trip for work most days of the week, so it has to be reliable too.
If theres a few of you interested in this car, I've got a build thread I can copy over.
Its not a small thing either. Its a pretty massive build from a rolling shell when I first built it for the 08 VW nationals in 7 weeks. Finished it on
the Thursday night & drove it the 2000km round trip to syd. Ended up with a 1st for modified mk1 & then People Choice overall. Broke a fuel
hose when I drove through the gates at the Nationals was the only incident for the whole weekend.
Then onto a turbo install which is all home built & tuned & done in less than 2 full weeks.
