whats the deal with saying the date here?
Just wondering what the deal is here in Aus with pretty much everyone on the tv or radio saying the date as (for example) "November ten" instead of
"november the tenth"??
I've been here for over 2 years now and have yet to meet anybody who says the date like that in real life!! Or have i not met the right people? ![ ](images/smilies/lol.gif)
How do you guys say the date?
Also in a race do people come "one, two & three" instead of "first, second & third"?
Highly confusing

yeah... some people are weird with dates.
One thing that annoys me greatly is twenty ten. Its two thousand and ten.... far out.

I say 20-10 as alot of people do now. It's quicker once you get to any number in the tenths and above, explain to me how that makes a person sound
like an american?

Almost 100 years ago is usually pronounced 19 10, so 20 10 would be a naturaly progression.

Yeah, just more Americanism, it's like "9/11" whereas in the Aussie of old it would have been "11-9", (11th. of Sept.) Forget channel 7 & 9,
watch more SBS and ABC!

Just as bad as the dates being Americanised is people running into you when walking on the footpath. I thought we naturally were taught to walk to
the left but I'm continually having to dodge oncoming ones walking to their right. No bloody wonder they have prangs on the roads if their brains
think the same there! ![:starhit: :starhit:](images/smilies/starhit.gif)

Yep, it's the tenth of November, or 10th of the 11th, not November 10, I reckon it's another pick up of an Americanism, I'm proudly Ausie so I'll
stick with what I know as Australian

Hiya All,
Geez!
You guys must be hanging with the wrong Americans. I spend most of my days here in the States and I have yet to hear anybody refer to next year as
"twentyten". You sure this is an "American" thing?
And, while we do (for some unfathomable reason) place the month before the day, I have yet to hear anybody say "Novemberten". It's always
"Novemberthetenth". Once in a while we will hear "TenNovember", but that's usually in a military or police context.

I absolutely love that here in Oz (at least up here in Qld) distance is measured in time not like back in the old country where we actually had to use
measurements. Can you imagine telling someone that Dover was 2 hours from London!! You could spend 2 hours in a traffic jam and not even get out of
London! I love Oz
