My 70' Fasty
Hey guys Im new to these forums and very new to Volkswagens!
I purchased my first VW last week because i was in need of a daily after selling my KE20 corolla.
Corolla:
1970 Volkswagen Type 3 Fastback
1.6 EFI Motor
4 Speed Manual
Extractors
14x6 steelies (stock is 14x4.5)
Great car overall that i picked up pretty cheap. Runs well and should prove to be a good daily.
Straight and no rust however original paint is cracking pretty badly in certain areas but still looks very presentable.
Plans:
Whitewalls - DONE
Lowered - HALF DONE
New dash pad
New drivers seat
General tidy up of interior
New number plates - DONE
Smaller front tyres
Accessories!
Any suggestions?
Heres the first day i got it:
Heres after a few days:
Since then.....
New 175/65's on front, dropped the back end two splines for funzies.
don't actually like it that much. May drop front end slightly more and come up one spline on rear for rake styles.
and today i have been busy!
Ive made new door cards, speaker pods, mounted deck in glovebox, new parcel shelf housing 2 10" subs.
Got some new bits and pieces including some eyelids, new shift know and horn button.
More pics soon!

altitude drop and some fat tyres

Great to see another type three out there. They are great cars.
Yours looks like a very nice one, hope you have rust proofing on the to-do list as type 3's suffer from it quite badly.
Bad spots are all around the guards, window rubbers and fresh air vent.
If you have a good one, it's worth protecting them from the elements!

I put some early model bumpers on my fasty the other day. I still need to adjust the front as its on an angle, but overall i like them so much better
than the big ass late model bumpers.
Had to modify the shit out of the front brackets to have it fit and sit quite flush (without the big safety thing that sits behind the original
bumper).
Let me know what you guys think!

Nice! It never crossed my mind to do that, cos i have a collection of late bumpers... plus I reckon id have to have the Overriders on it...
Nice jobs on the tinting the lights too! Im officially stealing that idea.... What did you use?
Might have to let you know when i get mine back on the road, and get a couple of late type3's together for a photoshoot...

Its a product called nite-shades. Its illegal of course, but actually works quite well. I actually don't like it on the front lenses, Rear looks
good.
Im chasing some over riders for the bumpers now, can they still be brought new by any chance? probably not, ill just have to hunt around!

Ill swap ya some front lenses for the tinted ones if your keen!
Are they the early bumpers that were on ebay?
Overriders... not 100% sure... but the more i look at the car, the more i like it... the bumpers... the tinted lights... What size tyres are you
running on the rear? It ties together nicely...
Rossko has most of the overriders left on the planet i think...

Yup these were the bumpers off ebay. Picked them up on Sunday.
Im going for a clean look with this fasty, not nearly as exciting as your rat look but i like it. (although im on the lookout for a rusty dub for my
next rat project)
I like the early bumpers much more for the look im going for. Ill swap the indicators if you like thats easy.
Tyres on rear are 195/75/14 Huge sidewall, thinking about changing my tyre sizes around but not certain yet.
Rossko only has 6 overrider's, pfft thats just not enough haha.

haha 6 on the front, 8 on the rear!
Im considering changing to early bumpers, if some come up, ill look into it, but im not going out of my way!
Early in the new year, we'll catch up and swap the indicator lenses over... Might get some tips from ya on tinting my rear ones too... Wasnt sure if
you had used the Nite Shades stuff... that stuff has been around for donkeys!
195 on the rear you say? any scrubbing at that ride hight? I have a few ideas up my sleeve and am wondering if i can get 225's under the rear guards
on mine... Guess we will have to wait and see!

With passengers a tiny tiny bit. It just depends on what offset wheels your running. You were you planning to put the 225's on? Thats dropped 2
splines on rear but doesn't look it because the tyres are very tall.

The 225's will go onto standard Type 3 rims... They are 225/50/15... odd size i know... i dont take passengers, no back seat.... My torsion bar is
parallel to the ground, no idea how many splines... Would love to go lower though... Front will come down while engine is out too... maybe the rear as
well, not sure yet...
The tyres fill out the guards well on yours though, gives a wicked stance...

How wide are the standard rims? 5" or 5.5"?
Im thinking about going for a similar tyre, something wide but lower profile and adjusting height from there.
