Cheap Insurance

Hi All,

Just thought I would share this with you all as most of our cars are a bit old and I am sure we would love to save some money on insurance.

Without the long winded story to how I got here, if you have an alternate daily driver and want to get cheap insurance for your VW, even if its a resto project (e.g. for accidental damage or theft), try calling NRMA Vintage, Veteran and Classice Department on 1800 646 605.

My premiums went from best part of $400/yr to way less than $100/yr.

The regular department does not do this type of policy, so don't waste your time with them. Try them for the ins on your "alternate daily driver".

This is effectively a comprehensive policy as I understand it.

Please get the details for yourself and don't just take my word for it, but this is the deal I got.

Apologies if this type of info has been posted elsewhere.

Hope this saves some of you guys some money!

I had a look on their web site here's the link

http://www.nrma.com.au/car-insurance/veteran-vintage-classic/features-benefit...

I won't be changing as Shannons have been good to us.
We only pay about $500 per year for the 5 of our cars full comprehensive. We've had a couple of claims no hassles at all.

Don't get me wrong, I am certainly not advertising for NRMA, I just thought that people might want to know that there are alternatives to the main stream insurance policies. This one for instance was new to me and I thought it may be useful to other people.

I will certainly call Shannon's once my car is completed, or back on the road to see what they can do for me as well.

NRMA- Vintage Veteran classic car insurance.

Yes,
I have been using them for a few years...
I nearly went to Shannons last year but at the last minute changed My mind.. can't remember why???

I just Paid to have My beetle registered and in NSW the Green slip CTP [compulsory third party insurance]
I have with the NRMA.. and each year I get the CTP green slip in the mail with an amount to pay of $517. approx

If Your car is comprehensive insured the amount drops to $228 in My case... the reason for this is that the Classic vintage car NRMA insurance is entirely seperate to the normal NRMA insurance.. so My Car comes up in the computer each year as NOT insured... lol...

I wonder what happens if I paid the $517 would anyone let Me know???

With the Vintage veteran and Classic car insurance [NRMA]
You can also nominate how much you want to insure your car for... [up to a point..lol] $12,000 was Ok but I chose $5500 so the premiums are cheaper... lol
$198-50... $300 excess [remember I'm over 25++ etc]

I was with NRMA for abouit 25 years with no claim, then when I finally had one, they wanted to write the car off, and wouldn't let me have the car unless I went to the auction in Newcastle. It ook me about 3 months of angry phone calls and heartache to finally get my bug back. I changed to Shannons then, and have had 2 claims with no problems at all. After NRMA trying to steal my bug and treating me very poorly (to say the least), I wouldn't touch them with a 40 foot barge pole with a disinfectant rag on the end.
All the cheap premiums in the world aren't worth a hubcap full of cold water if you have a nightmare when you try and make a claim. I will certainly be staying with Shannons.

wouldnt your car be under insured at $5K lee? If you were unfortunate to enough to have it totalled, what would it cost to get another semi auto to your cars standard?

Yes, it could have been insured for $12,000 but I was just thinking about the cost of the insurance.... ??

If My car is written off, its given back to Me.. same as shannons..

Remember Vintage veteran & Classic car insurance is a seperate part of the NRMA ... they do the things Shannons do..
they haven;t been around long Jeff... that would have been the ordinary NRMA...

cheers

Hey cam070,

I know you were not pushing this insurance mob and just trying to help a few and there were a few cheap quotes obtained. But I thought I would just share with you my quote from NRMA Vintage, Veteran and Classice.

Proposed sum insured $20000 (Agreed Sum Insured may be subject to photos)

Premium Annual Payment $788.90 (includes government charges).

This is with travelling 4-9000km per year. not sure how much it would have been if travelling less than 4000km.

Still not a bad price to insure it for 20k and I would get the car back.

Kev

Huh. I can have a car with Shannon's insured for $15K for a $266 premium inc stamp duty and GST. Be in a car club, put more cars on the one policy and be over 25 years old and you can be surprised what Shannon's will do. They rang me and offered to up the value of my vehicles without upping the premiums.

That actually sounds too good to be true. Are they insured for very much? And is that $500 for the lot or $500 each?

At those prices I wouldn't change either!
